political travels by a grexer...

I got back to San Salvador a week ago Saturday but fell ill with
the flu and was incapacitated for seversl days. On Wednesday of
last week I went to Guatemala City and on Thursday I went to the
Pacific coastal town of Monterrico. I got to Antigua, Guatemala
on Saturday afternoon. I am in the process of finishing the Cuba
article and should have it over to you by Friday or so.
I was intrigued and disturbed by the story that woman told me
regarding the Turk and his scamming ways in Cuba. Adinay told me
he was going to see if anything could be done. I am interested
in an update on this situation. I am accessable here by fax or
e-mail till Saturday at the earliest.
I left the U.S. on De cember twelfth to scatter my father's ashes
in the La Selva Bio sphere Reserve in Costa Rica which he esta-
blished over twenty years ago. My brother and I travelled around
various national parks for almost a month in Costa Rica and Pana-
ma. He went home on the ninth of January and I proceeded to Ni-
caragua where I had spent a month from mid October to mid No-
vember to watch and cover the elections.
I was there for almost two months, among other things consulting
with a radio station to improve its signal delivery to Managua on
99.9 FM. They were using a horseshit quarter-wave ground plane
with an astronomically high SWR. A re lated team of people are
currently applying for a shortwave broadcast license. If it is
approved I'll go back to help put the station on the air.
For the record Radio Pirata has a Web page:
http://www.ibw.com.ni/~pirata. Their normal e-mail ad dress is:
pirata@ibw.com.ni. One of you should message them on my behalf to
find out about the shortwave license application process and if
they ever fixed their FM antenna. I put their chief engineer in
touch with the CE of Radio for Peace Interna tional for his input
but I don't know if anything transpired from it.
From Nicaragua I went to El Salvador for a couple of weeks before
flying to Havana for a month. I returned to El Sal for five days
before travelling off to Guatemala.
Guatemala City is a really shitty piece of work full of thieves
and muggers and all sorts of other shit. I went the very next
morning to the Pacific coastal town of Monterrico where I relaxed
for two days, recover ing the final bit from a case of the flu I
contracted upon my re turn to El Salvador.
I've been here in Antigua, Guatemala since Saturday afternoon and
expect to leave here on monday morning of next week. Any traffic
to be directed to me after Sunday 6 PM (8 PM EDT or Midnight UTC)
should be directed to my normal e-mail address which is
graymatt@cyberspace.org. My people at least supposedly forward
material from my talk-show address to wherever I am in the world
at the moment.
More as soon as possible, your friend, Des
