Southwest travel recommendations?
|
Mar 20 01:00 UTC 1995 |
Anyone know of any fantastic ghost towns or "lost in time" towns in
the southwest?
Also, I'm interested in any non-tourist trap item which you would recommend.
West Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Southern Nevada, Southern Calif are fair
game.

Try Jerome, AZ southwest of Sedona.

Hey, It's on our agenda - just after we make the Oak Canyon drive from
Flagstaff to Sedona. I don't know anything about Jerome, any tips, advice,
special photographic opportunities, cafe's, bars? etc etc.
Thanks Steve.

Jerome has an abandoned mine which is just a tourist trap, however the town
itself has a lot of interesting antique shops, cafes and art galleries. Also
surrounding Sedona are Montezuma's Castle, Montezuma's Well and Tuzigoot
National Monument. When you consider that these sites had a thriving society
hundreds of years before Columbus made his discovery they become quite
fascinating. Be sure to take the guided tour, the Rangers can make the sites
come alive.
