Cooperative short stories (a test of our imaginations) Mark Unseen   Sep 15 00:47 UTC 1997

It was a dark night and the air was heavy with humidity. Bill could
hardly breathe climbing up the steep stairs to his seaside mansion. Only
hours before he was basking in the sunshine in the Bahamas enjoying the
last days of his batchelorhood- but now it was time to prepare for his
upcoming marriage to Michele. As he approached the top of the stairs, he
heard an unusual sound coming from the upstairs window. 'What was that?',
he wondered.

(This is a test of what kind of story grexers create. Please limit each
response to one paragraph. The only rule is that you must, though, use
the characters from the earlier parts of the story- unless you introduce a
new character. Have fun!)

But, looking out through his window, all he could see was his german shepherd,
Elvis, chasing his tail out in the yard below.

He was so nervous, though, that he jumped when he hear Michelle walking up
behing him. "What is it, dear?" she asked sleepily. He sighed, but said
nothing - he couldn't put his finger on it, but something seemed very wrong.

It was late and they knew that they would have a long day ahead of
them, so Bill drove Michelle home and came back to his mansion,
intending to go to sleep immediately. He shut off the nights and
crawled into bed. Yet he laid there for over an hour, unable to
keep is eyes closed. He finally gave up and decided to take a walk
along the grounds. There wouldn't be anybody else out there to
disturb him and he would be alone with his thoughts, which was what
he needed to do.

Outside, the night air was heavy with humidity. Passing clouds
obscured the stars, making it difficult to see. Bill's mansion
was situated on a cliff overlooking the ocean, and the only
sound to be heard was the distant breaking of waves against
rocks. Bill came to the edge of the cliff, stopped, and looked
out over the water. All that could be seen through the darkness
was a distant flashing light. Evidently there was a boat out
there, signalling someone -- or some thing. After a few moments
had passed, bill turned to walk back to the house. He stopped
in his tracks, startled, when he saw a small faint light in the
attic window, flashing in rhythm with the light out on the
water.

Bill turned back to look at the boat, trying to figure out what it was
signalling but alas his knowledge of morse code was very limited. He looked
back at the light in the attic. Was it just a reflection of the light out
by the ship or was there someone up there? And if so, how had they gotten
up into his attic without his knowledge? He was sure that he had locked all
of his doors since the last time he had been here. Warily Bill alternatingly
watched the boat and the attic window until one of the lights disappeared.
The ship had lost light. The light in the attic was still there though.
That's it, Bill muttered to himself, I have to get to the bottom of this.
He quietly slipped back into his mansion and headed uptowards the attic, only
stopping by his bedroom long enough to grab a baseball bat.
