Russia's secret deal with Iraq: Oil for Influence! Mark Unseen   Oct 18 16:42 UTC 1994

A reliable source has given me information which circumstantially supports
a rather frightening theory of current international events:

While on a recent trip to Moscow, a source reports seeing VIPs of
Iraqi origin entering Russian government buildings, with small but discernable
ceremony.
Thesis: Iraq has sent representatives to Russia offering special
incentives relating to oil sales in return for Russian influence in UN
Security Council proceedings regarding lifting of sanctions against Iraq.
Russia's international standing as a diplomatic power would be reinforced,
as well as getting much needed fuel supplies at reduced cost, while Iraq
benefits from lifting of sanctions.
The only catch is that Russia is required to play dumb so that it seems
as though it was diplomatically effedtive with Iraq rather than being bought.
Meanwhile, Iraq refuses to honor its agreement to recognize Kuwait,
playing for time while Russia pushes the lifting of sanctions as an incentive
to Iraq.
Result: Iraq recognizes Kuwait after securing a guarantee to lift
sanctions. Russian stature as international mediator/deal-maker is glorified.
Russia and Iraq both benefit economically from secret oil deal.

Whaddaya think? I think it stinks, and deserves the censure of the
entire international community!

Your 'theory' about Russia being greedy for Iraqi $$ is well-known. France
is playing the same game with Iraq.
