Should I resign or not? Mark Unseen   Feb 28 04:32 UTC 1994

In the past few months, I have tried to take this conference
and manage it with a firm but gentle hand. I stepped in when Dan (keats)
and mythago took off for other parts. I askedTim Tyler to help me with
the fairwitnessing duties, but my hopes of a positive conference seem to
have gone up in smoke.

I don't think that I am able to continue in my duties as fw under the
present conditions. I don't need and especially don't like personal attacks
that have been written here. I have never attacked anyone, yet Tim seems to
enjoy attacking me. I believe firmly that one must be respected in order
to respect others.

Therefore, I shall put it to a vote. Should I resign? Yes or no.

I vote no. I think you should ignore tnt like the rest of us.

I think that you ought to decide for yourself, Jim, without resorting
to a majority vote, whether or not you wish to remain as FW. Only you
know the level of comfort or discomfort you feel in performing this
        function.
If you feel like resigning, then do so. If you feel like staying on,
        then do so.
I will support either choice, so long as it is made by you.

No. Fair witnessing a conference is most likely a learning experience
(I've never done it), and you're bound to do things that make people
unhappy. Find your own way of managing the conference, or not, as you
choose, but don't let one setback define the whole experience.

Jimbo apparently made a quiet resignation. Are there any volunteers to
replace him?

(IF omni resigned, does he really need a replacement?)

(surely you could do this on your own, Hoolie!)

I did NOT resign. My account is in limbo, meaning that I have been too
lazy to get my F-w powers ported to this account. I really don't
see an immediate need, since I hardly use them.

Before you assume my resignation, Tim, mail would have been nice.

Your self-confessed laziness to 'port your f-w powers' to the account shows
an ambivalent (at best) attitude concerning this conference.

I thought you had resigned due to a recent response of yours in
another item, plus of course #0 in this item...

After much thought and ponderance, I have decided to resign my f-wship
from this conference, and retire my own participation, except for
a few linked items, and that cannot be helped.

I have not been effective, nor productive, therefore someone
better qualified than I may assume the f-w ship.

have fun!

If there's anyone else who'd like to be a f-w of this conference,
please send me e-mail.

If there's more than one, we'll have to utilize some democratic process
to determine who it should be. As a last result, we'll ask the White House
to nominate someone!

 Special news flash!

Jim "Roto" Reuter, despite his comments of a few days ago ("I have
not been effective, nor productive [sic]...") has changed his mind, and
decided to remain a f-w of this conference!

For better or worse, no one else had volunteered to fill those
BIG shoes of his, so I guess by default, he gets his 'job' back!

Welcome back, Jim Reuter! We missed ya, big guy!

Cool! World Events without both Reuter and Tyler would be like At The
Movies without both Siskel and Ebert. Gotta love that constant tension. ;-)

Actually, I decided to stop being a victim at the hands of others, If
someone *ought* to resign it should be Tim, but we actually wouldn't
come right out and say it.

Despite my bizarre liberal leanings and odd opinions, I am committed
to keeping the job that I was entrusted to by staff.

If anyone doesn't like that, well then EAT MY SHORTS!
