I have become a fw in the conference.

Jim and I discussed a few things before I became a fw here.
This conference has two names, sports and hockey. It's going to
remain the hockey conference because Jim is a hockey guy. I'm into
major league baseball, college and NFL football, college basketball,
professional tennis, and I'm learning about soccer because my kids play.
I'll bring some of my interest in these other sports into the
conference. Anyone who wants to discuss different sports is welcome to
do so, and this is the place to do it.
Jim's not interested in a restart of this conference. It's been around
since the dawn of Grex, I think, and he likes the history.
I'm interested in using the WWW some more. I've reconfigured the
conference so you can use HTML in items. If you're a WWW user, you'll
see the HTML; if you're not, you'll see text. You can use images, too.
It's as wide open as Backtalk allows. We'll see how it works out. I'll
also play around with the WWW configuration for the conference.
Suggestions about this are welcome.

So far so good, John. I'm happy that you've made these changes
and that the conference is slowly coming back to life.

I've begun experimenting with the WWW page for this conference. So far
I've made it use a background image I've linked over from M-Net, and
added a link or two to the page.

Thanks for the effort! Just an opinion: On the conference welcome page
(in Backtalk), I found that the white background with the baseball bats
made it hard to read the text.

All right, I'll try a different background as soon as I can find one.
Let me know if you have any ideas!

Don't you see a white background with black text and tan baseball bats?
It looks pretty readable to me; if it's not for you, then I definitely
need to make a change. What colors would work better? Or do you think
it's the background that's the problem?

I'll give it some thought, the next time I get into Backtalk.

OK, on my screen (Netscape Communicator 4.04) the background color is "bright"
white, and the text is black. The letters that lie on top of the pale brown
bats are harder to read, and tend to obscure word recognition. That is a
personal perspective...

I've switched the settings to use the user's default background color.
Does that make it any better?
I also borrowed the Free Press's Detroit Tiger background image while I
look for something different. I better look quickly; I don't want to
use any image without permission.

The faint Tiger logo in the background "works for me".

No one else has spoken up. We have a 100% consensus amongst the users.

I couldn't keep using the Detroit Tigers logo from the Free Press. I
went looking for other images I could use as backgrounds for this
conference, and didn't find any really good ones. I found some nice
images, but not good for backgrounds. So I installed one of them as the
Welcome picture for the conference. Please let me know how it looks --
does it make the welcome screen too large?

The graphic image is OK. I would vote for a non-white background...

I'll set another color. I agree, leaving it at the browser default
makes it be white, and it's pretty unappealing.

Heh. I set another color. At least it's not white.
I don't know how to change the background color for the image, which
looks out of place using a different color for the WWW page background.
Maybe someday I'll figure out how to do that.

Right, I understand that. Just not how to actually do it.
