The superbowl item
|
Jan 23 00:13 UTC 1998 |
This is the super bowl item. The superbowl is this weekend! Green Bay
vs. Denver...
Green Bay is favored by 14...do you take Denver and the points or roll
with the Wisconsin cheeseheads? Is this finally John Elway's year? Will
the AFC *finally* win one???
Or will Brett Favre and Reggie Smith rule again?
My pick...Green Bay 24 Denver 20...I see a close game, which means if I
were betting I'd take Denver.
What do you predict?

I foresee a big, big blowout by Green Bay. I think they could score
over 50 points, and hold Denver to 10 or less. But I'll predict:
Green Bay 38
Denver 7

Green Bay 200, Denver 3
I'm going to the library and I'll spend the day READING, thank you very much
I don't know why this game is such a big deal, but then again I'm not a
football fan, and never will be.

I was going toopredict GB by a potload of points, but omni's pot is bigger
than mine. GB 35 Denver 10. I would take GB and give the points.
Usually I will take points, but not this time.
I hope the stock market goes up because of this. That's where my bets really
are.

I really want Denver to win because they've lost so many times (four)
I want to see John Elway retire as the Super Bowl champion.

It was a surprising game for a lot of us, I guess! (-:
I was happy just that it was a *good* game. Not well played, at least I
didn't think so (Favre looked like Scott Mitchell), but it was close,
and came down to the last minute of the game.

I don't know what game you were watching jep, if you can allude that Favre
had a bad game or something! 3 TD passes, almost led his team to the tying
score with time running out, all while being under tremendous harassment all
day.
I was hoping for the first ever overtime Super Bowl. The prospects were real
for that for perhaps for the first time since Jim O'Brien of the Colts beat
Dallas 16-13 on a late field goal.

Re: somewhere WAY up there..
The Steelers won the Super Bowl twice in consecutive years back in the 70's
(In other words, won 4 Super Bowls. 2 years, then none, 2 more years. Does
that make sense? I'm not making sense today..)

Favre threw an interception, then on the next possession, fumbled the
ball. I thought it was poor play on his part.

The interception was a poor throw, sure. The fumble was on a blind-side hit
by a blitzer. Those turnovers were minor compared to his 3 TD passes.
Meanwhile, other back-2-back SB winners: Miami, Dallas, SF.

You want to discuss the Red Wings in an item titled "The Superbowl
Item"?
It's more evidence of my contention that hockey is a lesser sport,
played by lesser athletes for the lesser enjoyment of lesser fans.
I think I'll enter an item about baseball. It seems to be about time
for discussion of the *real* sport.
