The Kris Draper incident. Mark Unseen   Jun 4 04:46 UTC 1996

So LeMeiux only got fined $1000 and 2 games for the Kris Draper hit.

Too light, or too much. We have all year to talk about it.

also, should there be a criminal penalty for malicious injuries?

On the ice, unless there was some extreme incident, perhaps by a player
against a referee, then I say *no*, no criminal stuff. However, and now
it may come to this, since the league is so spineless, Chris Draper may sue
Claude Lemieux in civil court to collect personal damages. There is a
precedent for this - Nick Polonich sued I_just_heard_today_but_I_forget_now
of the then Colorado (ironic, ain't it? :-) Rockies for damages, since the
player apparently deliberately hit him in the face with his stick, and did
all kind of damage, and won, collecting ~$800K. And another player
successfully sued the NHL and collected ~$1M.

&BTW, was that "Nick" or "Dennis" Polonich?...

  I think it was Dennis.

We should have kept Probert. Cementhead that he was, he could've dealt with
that *&^ Lemieux right then and there. Trouble with the Wings is that they
play finesse hockey, and not the agressive type, and that is what will keep
us from the Stanley Cup.

Oh, I don't know about that: Stu Grimson is the designated "goon", Darrin
McCarty loves to mix it up, and Keith Primeau won't back down from anyone.
Plus martin Lapointe is a chippy player, and Dino gets in people's faces.
It's the heart & the head that need to improve for the Wings, not the body...

I hope Drapes take this to civil court and exacts a heavy price from
Lebutcher, since the league was too gutless to handle things properly.
Not that many Colorado fans/media see it that way, BTW...

The colorado fans don't deserve to have such a good team. They think
Lemieux is what hockey is about. Canadian fans are complaining that all US
fans think the same, but that's an inaccurate stereotype. Most Michigan fans
appreciate really good hockey, and that's why the Wings, with all the speed
and finesse players that they have, are so well liked here.

The avalanche is a good team, make no mistake. But the enforcers who play with
intent to injure are a detriment to the sport.

are excluding michigan when the refer to the us..;)
