Girl Football star in Whitmore Lake

Well I was reading the newspaper yesterday and I saw an article about a
football player, and it kinda cought my eye.....
Well to sum it up, it kinda goes like this. A gal named Christine Mullreed
plays for the Whitmore Lake j.v. football team, on offence and deffence and
is doing an outstanding job..... althought she gets harrassed by other
teammates she says that she enjoys the game..... also she is 13...
Opinions, anyone?

does it really matter that she's female? After she puts on all the pads,
I'd bet it's hard to tell.

Who cares if a girl plays? If she gets hurt thats her problem.

Definitely! In fact, in a few years, I'd like to recruit her for my IM
co-rec State Champions football team....

I agree. Plus, we keep hearing that haing a girl on a team will hurt the
male identity/ego/respect of the boy on both teams (especially the oppositing
and losing team). Bull, there isn't much identity/ego/self-respect to begin
with if that is the case, is there?

At 13 years of age, girls actually have more lean muscle mass than males of
that age group. This , of course, changes as males enter their mid-teens.
Thus, few girls are able to play at a competitive level in their later teens.
There are the obvious exceptions, female kickers, and girls who are
genectically "big". As a matter of fact, there are currently 200 young women
playing football in some capacity in colleges

I messed up the last response. I wanted to end by stating that there are 200
young women playing football throughout colleges in the U.S., mostly at jr.
colleges and in recreational leagues at larger post-secondary school, with
'kicker' being the most popular position among these female jocks. I
personally prefer a hockey or rugby babe myself.

I still like volley ball... it seems like an equal opertunity game... or tenis
but I don't know how to play tennis...

The best co-ed sport is softball!!! END OF DEBATE!!! Some babes are really
awesome players and pretty cute as well!!

i play softball, which to me seems a bit tamer than football. But hey
if shes good and can go bothways(which most guys can't do) then go for it!
my parents wouldn't let me play guys baseball (no softball leagues when i was
younger)
due to the fact that they were afraid that i would be scorned by the kids and
the parents, but i ended up being a two time allstar and the player with the
best record in the little league when i was able to get into softball.
why not let her play she can obvioulsy do the job.

Well if you know Christine, I do, she was an OK Player, she really got
arassed!! I also played for a GUYS hockey team in A2. I didn't get my name
in the Paper!! I held my own! Christine would always run to the bathroom after
a guy called her a name and cry!!!! I agree with some of them an dI thought
that the guy were very rude, but some I could handle!! You really have to be
tough on a guys team because you HAVE to show them you are just as good or
better than they are!! Christine was very intimitaded by then and she would
stick up for herself which i had to do!! But were friends and I think she was
an OK player. I'm glad she did it, but just because you a girl on a guys team
doesn't mean you HAVE to get your name in the paper. Christine's artical is
the only one I have seen EVER, on a girl on a guys team!!!

girls and boys shoudld remain boys

how about girls remaining girls, but still playing in sports. That works for
me. As an American, i am particularly proud this year of how well our Women
Olympians did (much better than the men). Can this be traced to girlhood
athletics programs? I certainly think so.
Of course that begs the question of girls playing in boys' programs, but a
strong argument can be made for the lack of corresponding girls' programs.
