Considering I totally tune out the world when I write, interruptions
aren't much of a problem... and besides my boyfriend knows better than
to try to carry on a real conversation if I'm writing, he will most
likely read a book or do homework as to not disturb me.

In our house we have the closed door cue. If one of us needs a bit of
space, or quiet, or uninterrupted time to get work done, then we simply
close our study door. When closed, only if something is quite important
and urgent, would you disturb the other with phone calls, questions, or
requests for assistance. Everyone needs to have such time built into a
home or relationship. It's healthy. So for us private time is announced
by closing our study door.

if it's a nice warm day, I hop onto my bicycle or into my car
and go off to some nice secluded area with nice vegetation and
beautiful scenery so as to best enjoy whatever it is I'm enjoying.

Being outside is wonderful, But during the winter it's not that easy. At least
where I live it's not.

What's the matter, Valerie, you don't have a celular modem for your
notebook? ;)

The blunt approach is best. You are less likely to be hassled on
future occasions.

I think there's a big difference between direct and rude. I'd say:
"I'm trying to work <be on the computer, stay away from the mines in
Minesweeper, relax for a while> and it's hard to be interrupted. Can
these things wait for a little bit?" When (not if) it happens
again, I'd probably say "Is this urgent?"
So, does this make me a wimp?

I'd say something like: "Wait a sec - I'm trying to concentrate."
From there I'd probably stop at a convenient point and explain to
the loved one what it is that I'm trying to accomplish so that he
wouldn't feel rebuffed.
