The bad guys and the burning bridge
|
Aug 15 04:27 UTC 1994 |
You are chasing some bad guys, who you really need to catch to foil an
evil plot. They run across a wooden bridge over a very deep ravine, and
then set the other end on fire before you have a chance to get to the
bridge. Do you continue chasing them across?
(Sorry, I've been watching too much Rocky and Bullwinkle)

(no, only because I wouldn't have any way to continue the pursuit.)
[sorry, I haven't watched enough Rocky and Bullwinkle. ;)]

No, because I'm not a cartoon character, and therefore can't walk through
fire or fly across ravines.
I've been watching too much Rocky and Bullwinkle, too, I think.

Hey, what about your handy-dandy cellular phone? You do have
comrades on the other side of the river, don't you?

Depends on the rate of burn and density of the wood and bridge condition
etc............ all relative ya know?

This depends on a lot of subtle details, I think. What do I expect my
chances of surviving crossing the bridge are? How important is it to
catch the bad guys? (There are situations where if I had a 10% chance
of crossing the bridge successfully, and a 90% chance of getting killed,
crossing the bridge would be the right thing, but such urgent situations
are exceedingly rare in real life.)
