Does someone want to explain what some of these are? Is "In The Beginning"
a recap of the first four years, or what?

In the Beginning is the tale of the Earth-Minbari war, told in a flashback
form by Londo Mollari to two children just before the events twenty years
from now which we saw in the time-travel episode. (Whem!) It should give
more info on what and why. The "Guide" is a quick overview. And "Thirdspace
is a mystery story which takes place during the series, but which is not
actually referneced in any broadcast episodes, afaik.

Glad I used a 130 minute tape and a 160 tape to record B5
this past Sunday. I switched to the 160 in the last commercial
break before the very end of In The Beginning. Kinda felt there
would be no space between that and The Gathering.
TNT was better last night at getting the first episode in
within 7pm and 8pm. 8pm live sports may have kept the clock
correct.

I'm going to try to tape them all, sans commercials. This is my first major
taping project, so we'll see how long I go before I screw up. :) I got some
3-packs of 160-minute "everyday" Maxell tapes at Target for $7 apiece. Is
that a good price, can anyone tell me? Where do you all get your tapes?

I found 10 packs of tapes at Best Buy for $13, but I think they were on
special sale then. They are only 120 minute tapes, but they are of reasonable
quality.

I am using 160 minute tapes. Three episodes on each tape. I
squirelled away a large quantity of 3M High Grade Collections tapes
about a year ago, since they have less advertising on them as they
sit on the shelf and have a more durable cardboard case. I had been
using only plastic sleeved tapes for Star Trek collections, but alas,
those, too, have gone extint in the video tape market.
"The Gathering" and 22 first season episodes puts the first
season on 8 tapes at standard speed, cross-taping from SP to SP to
remove commercials.
I have the fourth season on 8 130 minutes tapes. At 44 min
per episode x 3, that uses 132 minutes of tape. Some just fit.
I also copied Garabaldi's 2nd favorite thing in the universe
after the first episode: Duck Dodgers in the 24&1/2th Century.

If I pay less than $2 per tape, I am happy. By that standard, $7 for 3
tapes is a bit much. "Everyday" probably means it's good to record
over every day. If you are planning to archive your B5 tapes, this is
probably not the thing you need.
When I keep tapes, I do not bother to cut out commercials. The risk of
missing part of the show, wasting time finding the right point on the
tape, the quality of image you lose when you cross-tape do not seem
worth it to me. I'll zip past the commercials when I watch the tapes.

For those that do not know, in January Babylon 5: Crusade will hopefully
begin airing on TNT. It's another 5 year project, just like the original
Babylon 5. More information can of course be found at most Babylon 5
websites, and a good starting point may be
http://tnt.turner.com/babylon5 or http://www.midwinter.com/lurk.

Well, here we are the night of the last episodes produced for
season 5. "Objects at Rest" . Next week in the final episode, written
and shot in April-May, 1997. We know it's the last episode, but
don't read the little blurbs in TV Guide, they give away too much.
Just watch next Wednesday at 10pm on TNT (Ann Arbor Cable 30).
