I hear a rumor that a ConClave was held in Lansing, and I completely
missed it.

Misti wins the award for World's Shortest Con Report. :)
Actually this is all nostalgia on my part; I got a progress report
for the 1998 Baltimore Worldcon today and I realized that it could be
the next convention I attend; it's already been over a year since
my *last* convention.
Leslie and I would like to go the Corflu in Leeds, UK, next year;
it even coincides with Leslie's spring break, so we *could* do it.
Only problem is, it's just two months before our wedding.
Over in rec.arts.sf.fandom, there were some reports that some
conventions are seeing a dramatic drop in attendance; some so bad
that they have closed up shop. What's happening locally?

I went. I went. I went! I had fun, but it sure seemed as if the
programming was thin on the ground. Of course, we could only
go in the afternoon....

To me ConClave felt like about 200 people where missing.
If cons are gonna get that small of attendance, then they can fit
into the Holiday Inn north, Ann Arbor.

Ironically, if a con were held in Ann Arbor, I would be more
likely to attend. >8)

How big was Conclave this year?
Many eons ago, Confusion used to be held at the now-closed Ann Arbor Inn
downtown; ConClave was held in one of the State Street / I-94 hotels
at least once.

And once upon a time, Confusion was held in the now-nonexistent Plymouth
Hilton. Styliagi Air Corps, anyone? ;-)

Actually, First reports show ConClave only having about 50 fewer
attendees than last year. One known impact was the fact that Yom
Kippor was ConClave Saturday. First they wanted a non-football weekend
so that there would be no footbal reservations for the hotel. Then
with Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday, it made it attractive to Canadians
to attend, given that they could travel late to get home and not work
the next day. Also being Columbus Day, would give some Americans the
day off too.
