I'm new to SF conventions and looking for info about ConClave Mark Unseen   Oct 12 03:38 UTC 1992

What's the scoop on ConClave this weekend?
How do you get to the Southfield Day's Inn?
If i'm going to show up on Friday after work, would it make
sense for me to eat dinner and then go on over, or go over
and expect to find vegetarian food available?
What's an absolute must-see?
Thanks!!

If someone else doesn't enter something before I call back, I'll put
in a summary of the flyer we got in the mail a while back.

Having been to many cons in my time, Valerie, I'd definitely advise
you to eat BEFORE you go if you want anything other than hot dogs and
potato chips.

Generally, though, there's a summary of restaurants in the area in the
con bulletin.

Okay, here's the directions from the ConClave "Fannish Times":

  "From Chicago and Points West:
Take I-94 to Southfield Fwy, North, exit at 8 Mile. Follow
services drive to 9 Mile. Right on 9 Mile, 1/2 mile. Hotel
       on Right.

   From Everywhere Else:
Take best route to I-75. Take I-75 to I-696, West, exit at
Greenfield Road, south (left). Take Greenfield to 9 Mile,
turn right. Hotel is 1/2 mile up on left."

The cost at the door is $20. A fee of $50 per child gets you babysitting
for the entire weekend, allowing unlimited use of the facilities during
babysitting hours (Friday 6pm-mid.; Sat. 9am-mid.; Sun 10am-2p.m.). The
babysitting service doesn't include meals, diapers, and other special
things that babies need, other than supervision, that is). Since it's
too late to pre-register for babysitting service, it's on a space available
basis now.

Guest of Honor is Lois McMaster Bujold. That's a must-see in my book, or
at least, for getting my books autographed.

Let's see...there's an Art Show, Spacetime Theatre from Chicago, Robert
A. Heinlein Memorial Blood Drive, Costumer's Jam Session, Mask Making
Workshop, Masquerade Dance, Bill and Barry's Wacky Science Show, filk
singing, Pun Off, 1992 Master of PUNishment Invitational, Art Programming,
Singing Voice Workshop, Uncle Richard's Trash Video Round-Up, and
authors roaming around, including Michael Kube-McDowell and Ted Reynolds.
Don't forget to check out the huckster room...

This is all from the flyer we got, so they may have added or changed
stuff since. When you register they should give you an up-to-date
program.

Restaurantwise, go to the Original Pancake House for breakfasts.
Get there EARLY or you won
't get a seat. They're worth the trip. I believe they're on 10 Mile
between Southfield and Greenfield.

Well now that CONCLAVE is over, how was it? Did you enjoy yourselves?

In case you missed it, the highlight of the Gaming Room was a new game
that is called "Tankity" or something like that. The creator of the
game wanting to test his game in a 20 tank version and a group of
valiant gamers sat down for the experiment at 11 pm on Saturday. They
finally finished Sunday morning around 10 am. While the experiment
produced valuable insight, it also produced "FUDDLAND".

If you weren't there to see the debauchery of human intellect, you
probably wouldn't believe me but then again anything is possible at
these conventions.

May the FUDD be with you....

Valerie...Valerie...Valerie...

Don't be afraid of us weirdos...it's the guys who wear the suits and ties
that you should be worried about!

Then again, I showed up at the CON wearing a suit and tie! Hmmm....

Wow! responding to a 1992 posting. Its like Geraldo Rivera busting into
Capone's vaults (or something like that)...it's like riding with H.G. Wells
in his time machine...its like studying the bones of some mysterious million
year old animal! Who's this Arsenio Hall person??
