I greatly enjoyed the first Dune novel in my youth, enough to read more
than once, less so the follow-ups, and I never got past the fourth. The
first novel is still a fond memory, but I am a little concerned that as
I think back on it now it's the flaws that come to mind -- Drugs make
you see the future (very '60s)? Your genes carry the memories of all
your ancestors?
I realize that all science fiction suffers from the same problem, but it
drives home to me the fact that our vision of the future is determined
more by our own culture and vales than by true insight into the shape of
things to come.
