DeForest Kelley: Where No Man Has Gone Before...
|
Jul 8 18:15 UTC 1999 |
I have just learned that DeForest Kelley has died on June 11 after a long
bout with stomach cancer. For those of you who don't know <and if you don't
know, WHERE have you been living?> DeForest Kelley playes Leonard 'Bones'
McCoy on the original Star Trek and the first six movies. Comments and tributes
are appreciated.

I always thought it unusual that when McCoy was in an "altered" state (e.g.
on the "spores" planet) he would "fall back" into some kind of southern drawl.
Was that in fact supposed to be part of the character's background?

Indeed, it was. I believe the character grew up in Georgia.

Yes, he was from Georgia. An old country doctor as he always said.
Actually, I even have a grits recipe in a very old Star Trek cookbook
which Mrs. Kelley sent, given that Bones and DeForest were both Southern.

I hope one of the future movies gives rememberance to McCoy. He
did live to the time of the first Picard Enterprise journeys. Data or
Dr. Crusher would be one to remember him.

I guess it was an honor of sorts that McCoy was the first TOS member to appear
on TNG.

Yes, he was one of my favourite Star Trek characters . . .
