U.S. to deply high-power microwave weapons? Mark Unseen   Jan 22 15:09 UTC 2003

Hard to say if this is for real, a planted propeganda story, or just
someone musing about possibilities, but TIME has an article claiming the
U.S. has developed a high-power microwave weapon that can be mounted on
a cruise missile and will destroy any electronic device within a 1000
foot radius.

They're claiming it releases 2 billion watts almost instantaneously,
using energy stored in capacitors.

It certainly couldn't release 2 billion watts for very long. But
that is only about the power of a standard electric power generating
plant, and of course if it is for only a nanosecond, that's only
a couple of joules (about half of a small calorie). It could be powered
with an AA cell.
