As I have already announced in Agora's General Annoucements item:

The Ring of Steel is hosting a free demonstration on November 12, 2001
at the University of Michigan's Student Theatre Arts Complex (STAC)
from 10:00-13:00.

I'm willing to bet there'll be another one in December, maybe. Or Tim
can drop by the Tuesday after.

Hope so. I think he dropped out of Ring because he's not quite ready to
do that much work without getting to the glamor. When he's older, he'll
understand the concept of practice...

Sounds like a reasonable conclusion to me.

Okay, it's not the original purpose of this item but it is related:

The Ring of Steel *may* be opening for Lord of the Rings at Quality 16
on December 19, 2001.

That would be fun. Local SCA folks doing a demo there?

Possibly. We're working on it. :)

Well, if we are doing an opening for LOTR, I have once again been
typecast. Last year it was the ogre Shrek, this year it's a troll.

Then again, I may not be able to participate. In addition to the date
being the birthday of one of my friends, it is also the last day of one
of my classes.

Turns out I was wrong about Ring's next free demo, it's not until
January 2002 (I don't know the day yet).

As far as Ring's LOTR gig, we are planning on being at Quality 16 from
around 6:00 p.m. - around midnight on Wednesday, December 19, 2001.

As I have recently received permission to take one of my exams early,
it looks as though I may actually be at the LOTR gig. I'll be the
troll.

Returning to the original topic:

The Ring of Steel's next Free Demonstration is on Sunday, February 10.

Same bat time, same bat place as response #0

Sounds like fun. Perhaps Tim will decide to start up again.

There's been a structure rearrangement (as in we actually have some
now). 1st hour is mostly for beginners, 2nd hour is shared, 3rd hour
is mostly for advanced members.

That makes sense. Easier for kids, too.

How large is the membership these days ?
vidar
response 17 of 22: Mark Unseen   Jan 11 23:39 UTC 2002

As usual it fluctuates. I'd say it's currently somewhere in the 30s.
You can check out the Web site for a more or less up-to-date count. I
miss some of the people who've left (Rivka, Todd) but I know some are
only on hiatus (Bree, Tyce).

So are Ring folks doing a demo at ConFusion this weekend? Or are SCA folks?

response 19 of 22: Mark Unseen   Jan 16 07:52 UTC 2002

Cynnabar is doing a demo...not sure about RoS.
vidar
response 20 of 22: Mark Unseen   Jan 16 22:09 UTC 2002

It was mentioned in a RoS company meeting, and we decided against going
after having such a horrible experience with it last year.
kami
response 21 of 22: Mark Unseen   Jan 22 05:33 UTC 2002

bummer. what was horrible about it?
I missed the SCA demo, as the boys had to be back in Ann Arbor then. They were
disappointed.

Quite frankly, that we had to do most of our demos by the gamers.
While it isn't true of me, as Rivka said "most gamers are thinkers, not
doers".
