The nice people at KARS (Kankakee Area Radio Society,
http://www.w9az.com/ ), let me work 2m SSB, which
really surprised me in terms of it effective range.

Well, this report is rather late, but ARROW and the U-M Amateur Radio 
Club had a great field day this year. We ran four different stations--
two phone stations and two CW stations. Here's how we ranked:
  * 46th of 2333 entries nationwide
  * 4th of 126 entries in class 4A nationwide
  * 2nd of 85 entries in MI (USECA was first with a 16AB entry)
