It is. STeve will be heading out to Domino Farms and RF Hill shortly to set
up the UHF/VHF stations for the ARROW site. They did a lot of antenna set
up last night but he didn't get back to town from work until 9pm. We went
out there when he got home in time to talk to a couple of people and look
everything over. I noticed that the big grills had arrived and that the food
tent was set up. I will probably be going out later this afternoon, Staci
may be helping with cooking breakfast and lunch tomorrow.

I missed field day again this year. I knew the local hams
were setting up, but I had to go out of town. :-/

Field day is too competitive.

Not the way we do it. We are there for fun first and foremost. Points in
the contest side are gravy. All the stations we have set up encourage any
ham that comes out to operate for a while. We have a station set up for
visitors, especially non-ham visitors, to operate and get a feel for ham
radio. We have cold cuts for lunch both days, a great bbq for dinner on
Saturday and at least coffee and bagels for breakfast on Sunday. If there
is a cook around on Sunday morning, the grill is used for bacon, sausage,
eggs, and pancakes. Anyone on site at meal time is fed, club members or not,
radio operators or not. Fun is the main thing.

I haven't done a Field Day in quite a while, but the last time I did, I
really enjoyed it. It's a good introduction to contesting because, in
the right group, it's informal. I'm sure there are people who take it
way too seriously, of course.
