Winter Wheat Child
|
Feb 27 22:42 UTC 2002 |
Once upon an Autumn afternoon,
Together, he and I,
We planted a seed.
Together.
Now, with Spring approaching quickly,
I put my hand to the ground where the seed was buried
And feel the roots moving into place.
Before long,
I know there will be a seedling.
A tiny plant
That he and I will be responsible for,
Because we planted that little seed
Together
Once upon an Autumn afternoon.

I don't remember reading anything of yours that I've liked better, morwen.
I like how consistent the metaphor remains, how simple and direct and
clearly developed it is. The slight reversal of planting in autumn
and ripening in spring deepens works well, too.
Good show.

Maybe the title should be "winter wheat child"; plant in the
autumn, reap in the spring.

I'll agree with both sentiments.

Okay. I was desperate for a title for this when I wrote it anyway.
