Oh Will You Be My Honey Babe? Mark Unseen   Feb 16 15:42 UTC 2001

Oh Will You Be My Honey Babe? (a Ragtime Song)
        ----------------------------------------------

        VERSE

I'm so in love with you, I can't deny
That you are my sweetums, and I'd just die
If you went away, I couldn't say
What I might do if you forsake me.
All day long I'm thinking only of you,
How can I convince you that my love is true?
        I couldn't survive, I'd just take a dive
If you refuse to take me.

        CHORUS

Oh will you be my honey babe
And come and live with me?
We'll have a grand love nest,
And soon there will be three.
Oh will you be my honey babe,
Just be my gal so fine?
        We'll make the perfect couple,
I'll be yours if you'll be mine!

I'd just die if you called me sweetums. ;}

You mean you haven't always wanted to be compared to the 7-foot-tall walking
eyebrow on the Muppet Show? I'd be flattered, myself.

(By the way, #0 is intended to be sung to Grace Bolen's piano solo,
"The Smokey Topaz", published 1901.)

(Which I'd be willing to bet you never heard of before...)

I'd be willing to bet you'd win that bet.

You'd have to send me a recording. I've never heard you sing, so..

I'm not sure you'd want to... :)

By the way, there are a few MIDI files of "Smoky Topaz" on the
web. Many of them are played too fast; a reasonably good
rendition is at

  http://www.ragtimemusic.com/midifile/smkytpz.mid

The "verse" and "chorus" of #0 are meant to go with the first
and third strains, respectively.
