Grex Recital Redux Mark Unseen   Apr 6 13:32 UTC 2000

Four years ago Grex had a recital where a dozen or so talented folks
treated an appreciative audience to a sampling of their talents. We had
pianists, singers, string players, poets, and math like you've never seen
done before. It was a hoot.

Since then I've had a few people ask about maybe doing it again. This
item is intended as a feeler - to see what kind of interest there would be
among performers.

Too, last time I chipped in the money for the recital hall (a nice room
with a grand piano at the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor). If we
did this again I'm thinking of doing it a little differently. Maybe
putting out a bowl for "whatever you can" donations? I'd pay for the room
out of that and if we were short I'd make up the difference. If the
donations more than covered the fee then the balance would go to the Grex
general fund.

Whatchathink?

I'd participate, and I'd be happy to donate a few dollars towards a venue.

The last recital was a whole lot of fun. I'd happily
participate again.

I missed the first one, and sorry I did. I'd certainly enjoy attending a
second one. I'd like to participate, too, somehow, but I'm not sure how my
skill set translates into something I could present at a recital.

I would love to participate, if the recital took place over the summer or on
a weekend during which I could make it back to Ann Arbor. This sounds like
a great idea.

Depending on schedules, I would be happy to perform.

I'd love to attend. Not perform though - I can sing a baby to sleep
sometimes, but I think he falls asleep mainly so he won't have to keep
listening to me.

I second Jan's thoughts in every detail, except that the baby is a she,
and I know that she loves hearing my terrible singing.

Thanks, other and others. ;-)

I'm going to mail katie and arabella and coyote to see if
they would be interested, but you know they are in a different
league when you even hesitate to ask for fear you'll insult them. ;-)

Too, I'm a real softie for kids performing so if any Grexers have
youngsters who could bring a talent to a general recital they'd
be more than welcome to join in.

And so far I don't think we've attracted any poets. John mentioned
having this linked to poetry. I'll ask.

Hey Eric (other)... you might also suggest a venue. The church room Mary got
last time was good, but the carpet muffled the sound a bit (other than that
it was about perfect in size)

My offer to perform involves poetry and NO singing.
Want a room cleared? Have me come in singing.

If you want to have a crew of all Eric's, then I'll volunteer to help
Eric B if needed.

Maybe the final act should consist of all us non-singing Grexer's doing
a few choruses to a song none of us know the words to. That should
clear the room.

Interested in doing something. Story-telling, and poems if no other poets show
up (don't wanna take up too many slots).
