first pet Mark Unseen   May 12 05:33 UTC 1995

When I was really little, we had a dog named Sweetie. She was pretty
much a mutt.. a little dog (about 15 lbs.) with white longish fur and
peachy colored ears and muzzle. I don't remember her real well, since
I was little, but I remember she was a real gentle animal. (hence her
name, probably).

What kind of animal was your first pet? What do you remember about
him or her?

I remember my first pet. Her name was MISS KITTY. (really unique) I
remember going away for the day and then when I got back home she was
gone. My dad told me that she had ran away. The wierd thing about it
was that when we went over to my dad's friend's house, there was my cat
hmmmm...... makes you wonder. Luckily, i did get over that chidhood trama.

My first pet was a cat, she was about seven years older then me, and
not really mine, but she was there while I was growing up. Her
name was Puffer- or Puff. My parents adopted her from a family
that was moving away and couldn't take her. She was a beautiful
long haired calico cat. :)

My first pets were two cats. A black kitty named pepper and a brownish
colored cat named ginger. They were great cats. I remember my first rabbit
well. It was a beautiful blue broken Mini Lop which I named "Cupcake". Why
I named her that, I do not know.

My first pet. was a rather large dog that was a cross between a lab and a
great dane.. it looked like a black/grey tank with an attitude.. we calledher
cookie.. She was gentle.. But man..:) She could scare people away like it's
nobody's business..:) I miss her.. We had to give her away cause we lived in
a rather tiny house and she kept growing..<pout>

(I've gotta say, as a side note... The strangest combination dog I've
ever met was half golden retriever- half pitbull. Had the size of
a golden retriever, built like a pitbull, with the fur of a pitbull
the color of a golden retriever's. His name was Butch, and he such
a lovey dove. :) )

He was very lovey, but he barked quite fiercely at strangers,
although I don't think he would hurt anyone.

My first pet was named Puddy 2 (the original Puddy was my parents' cat
WAY before we came into the world). I don't remember much about her,
other than she was black and liked salmon. We had to get rid of her
because Mom discovered I was allergic to her. My next cat (I was now
on allergy medicine) was Misty. She was also black, and was with me
from kindergarten through the third grade. My dad accidentally hit her
on his way to volleyball practice, and still feels bad about it. He
performed a beautiful funeral ceremony, though. (very non-Dad, since
he grew up in a farm area and was used to animals dying)

(side note) The name "Puddy" came from my uncle. When my parents
brought their new cat home, he said, "I tawt I taw a puddy tat." My
dad loved it, so that was her name from then on. =)

We had a cat named Puffers when I was little... She was mostly my sister's
cat, and I think she's the reason why my sister is so fond of calicos.

When I was really small, starting around age 3, I dreamed of having a dog.
My brother was alergic to dogs, so I tried my hardest, though I loved my
brother, to trade him for a dog. I even tried to trade him with his best
friend's family... but I didn't get a dog.

When I was 6, almost 7, Jeff's allergy had faded. My parents decided I could
have a dog. My mom had had a Cocker Spaniel when she was young and she loved
it, so we got one. I recall vividly going to the breeders and finally finding
a breeder and looking at the litter. Peanut was a very large puppy and ended
up being about a 40-45 pound Cocker Spaniel with a very large, muscular
stature. He hunted, except his first nice home when he encountered a bunny
in the yard but it was bigger than he was. I've never seen any dog move that
fast since... He ran... He was a man's dog, as most Cocker Spaniels are,
bonding to the man of th house. He was dad's dog... He was good for me
because he tolerated everything, but he wasn't really my companion dog, though
I loved him dearly. (ALl ya have to do is have fur and possibly be a mammal
and I'll love ya... 4-legs, or being of a breed usually having 4 legs, is
a pretty strong indication too that I'll deeply love ya...<G>)

I think my older brother would have more then willingly traded me for a
dog (when we were younger). Then when I was 13 my dad took it into his
head to get us a dog. I don't know why he did it then... but within two
weeks we had a beautiful, purebred German Shepherd that we rescued from
the humane society. She was supposed to be a show dog- but with the
'pepper-back' appearance they couldn't show her (pepper-back meaning that
instead of having the purely black back she had little white spots too)
and couldn't breed her in case her pups were also pepper-backs. So when
they moved to a place that didn't allow dogs- they gave her and Duke
their 6 month old German Shepherd to the Humane Society. I think we
lucked out with Dutchess... she's old now though, and going deaf. :(
