Nobody ever questioned me about being with my daughter. I don't
think being with one's child is suspicious enough behavior to
warrant a stop by the police. I'd think that would constitute
an unwarranted intrusion against my rights. But as the sobriety
check lanes are legal, and coerced confessions are legal, I guess
the police state has arrived, so I guess the scenario described
could happen. (Join the ACLU!)

I'd help a lost toddler who was wandering around the street, but
I doubt if I'd take the toddler into my home alone. That could
be misconstrued as kidnapping. I'd keep the child in public
or would get a neighbor to help out, as a witness as much as
anything else.

What a terrifying thought! Men afraid to be "alone" in public with their
own kids. Were these men all from one region of the country?

I would think a police officer would be in serious trouble if he was
caught harassing a parent without due cause, like the person in question
fit a description of a kidnapper.

No worries here, my daughter looks very much like me. You'd have to be
crazed to believe she wasn't my daughter.

I would help a child in need of help, regardless of appearances or
the likelihood I'd be arrested.
I often take my nephew and niece out (ages 6 and 4), and have never
had even the hint of trouble, or problems, or odd looks from people.

I would make an educated guess that the alleged item --if it actually
exists/existed, would be in alt.fathers.rights and/or alt.privacy.

There isn't any reasonable cause to stop a vehicle occupied by an adult
male & juvenile unless perhaps the child is visibly very upset about
something, the driver of the vehicle is somehow acting in an unusual,
suspicious manner, or a combination of several minor things, such as a
white child/black adult (or vice-versa), very late hours, etc.

Of course the threshhold of 'suspiciousness' & 'reasonable cause' varies due
to the actual level of pedophilial instances in a community.

As a result of that sicko queer little league coach last Summer, many
current little league coaches have had to attenuate their affection &
compassion they display to their players.

I have an amusing (?) tale to tell along these lines. About 3 years ago, I
was comming home from Meijers with my then 3 year old stepson. Everything
was going great, and I was fully legit...he was in his car seat and I in my
seatbelt, he was having a wonderful time amusing himself with some toys in
the car. I pull up to a stop light, right next to a police car. Now, my
local township police have known me better than I like in the past, so I am
naturally very cautious when in their vicinity. Alll at once, my stepson
while in the coarse of play, starts yelling "Help me, Help me"...not real
loudly, but certainly loud enough for the officer in the car next to me to
hear as it is the middle of a warm summer day, and the car windows are down.
Don't you know, I about died. Luckily, the officer didn't look my way,
which now that I think about it, is rather alarming. Once we got home, my
wife and I explained to him that yelling 'Help me' from a car is not a really
good thing for a child to do. He hasn't done it again, and that memory is
still good for a grin I think.

As far as I know, the only trouble STeve has had when out alone with one/both
of the kids is other women trying to pick him up. I guess that some women
assume that a man alone with kids is a divorced daddy and fair game. He is
amused when this happens.

Could somebody explain the difference between homosexuality and pedophilia
to tnt? I'm not in the mood.

I remember my father telling me that when he took me somewhere (like a park)
where there were lots of other kids playing, he'd make a point of talking to
me a lot ("Be careful on the monkey bars, Laurel") so that the other parents
would know he was a parent, and not some weird old guy out to molest little
kids.

Little girl follows mommy into the shower. Mommy steps out of the shower
dripping wet and little girl says...

"Mommy, what are those?"
"They're breasts dear."
"When will I get breasts?"
"When you're older dear. Now, mommy has to get ready to go out..."

Little girl follows daddy into the bathroom. Daddy steps out of the shower
dripping wet and little girl says...

"Daddy, what is that?"
"That's a penis dear."
"When will I get one?"
"When your mother leaves for bingo, dear."
