tenetive Planescape "Fires of Dis" Adventure
|
Sep 15 00:10 UTC 1995 |
I plan to run "The fires of Dis" if I can get it up from grandma's.
I am not certain about character levels, but I believe it to be
tailored for characters of 5th to 9th level. Characters from any
campaign setting are acceptable, so long as players keep track of
their own racial special abilities and tell me anything I might need
to know in addition. Keep track of your own experience point bonuses
if applicable, and tell me if your character is supposed to rise in level.
I need at least four of you, and a max of ten. I do use the optional
"training" rule for level advancement. All classes are acceptable, as
well as many kits. Ask me if a kit you want is also a full fledged class.
Remember, all planar characters must belong to one of the 15 factions
from the beginning of the adventure.
I'll go see if I can pull the adventure out of my RAVENLOFT boxed set.
One more thing, If I don't understand a spell, tell me waht it is
s'posed t'do. I also use magic points instead of spell memerization,
because a wizard who has to keep looking in his book ain't a wizard.
If I get this up, I'll inform you of when I am ready.

I guess. I'll tell you if and when I am ready. Just a little more info
about magic points... look at the spell progression tables, find your
current character level... multiply the number of level X spells by the
spell level and add across and you'll have your total m.p.
This will be interesting, I think running a written adventure across
the net. I may need to modify some tings though, to make it a little
smoother for net play.

Let me guess. Spells of level X cost X points to cast?
I like. THough what's to keep 3rd lvl mages from casting lv.3 spells?
(2nd lvl = 2 1st 1 2nd spells by the book)

I'll need info on factions.
Will you take a race from Red Steel boxed set?

Every spell you cast costs its spell level, unless I dictate otherwise.
Therefore, you are correct, starwolf. And as for preventive measures,
the answer is the spell progression table. Even if you have the points,
you still need to use the progression tables. Mayhap I did not explain
myself clearly. A first level mage has 4 spell points, but only cause
I think it is silly to only be able to cast a spell once a day at 1st
level. Upon attaining the ability to cast second level spells, our
hypothetical mage adds 2 mp to his max. Now do you understand?

I'll take anybody from anywhere. I do need specs for races I don't
know about though. Red Steel, hmm? Then you don't need a faction.
(yet, anyway)
The planar locals will be happy to bombard you with faction philosophies
once the adventure begins. In fact, one of the Factols wears plate mail
made of Red Steel. I need to know the name of the Red Steel planet, too,
though.

One more thing, +1 and +2 magical weapons can be purchased at double
and quadruple the normal price, same with armor, respectivley. >In
the end your going to want something of at least +3 enchantment.

I'll try. I might need to bring my Player's Handbook to the vax to
help explain.
Anyway, spell prgression. Suppose a dragon (since they don't do spells)
in the same way as mortals has spells: 2 2 1
Take the 2 x 1=2 2x2=4, 1x3=3. Now add those totals across 2+4+3=9.
that would be the dragon's total magic points. Castingg 3rd level
cost 3, 2nd costs 2, 1st costs 1 point. Got it?

Certainly, though for ease of play, I would like to restrict it to 2
classes.
Point of inquiry: Has anyone out there read "The Death Gate Cycle"
by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman? (All 7 Novels, not just some)
Depending on the size and power of the group, you might be running
into some Death Gate beasties. Some will seem like variations of
current AD&D creatures, and others will be totally new.
If you have read the books, bear in mind that your character does not
know what Haplo knows.
A few more things...
I want everybody to add a line (somewhere) to their character in this
format: Home World/Home Plane (use the one that applies): Planet/Plane,
Country, etc.
Furthermore there is a rift in the fabric of time and space that leadto and
from the post-sundering death gate Earth. So be careful where you tread.
Remove all warm clothing now, and leave it at home. You will regret it
if you take it with you.

That depends entirely on the size and relative power of the group. You
may meet elves of the Tribus Empire, you may meet Patryns, you may meet
Sartan.
The adventure itself is for Planescape, but the adventure is supposed to
be difficult which is why I may throw in Death Gate critters.
I hope some of my players (potential) will be planar, so that they might
help people understand the lingo.

Real World rune magic perhaps. I have not come up with any ways of
incorporating Patryns and Sartan as PCs, so actually, I must regretfully
forbid them. If you have The Vikings Campaign Sourcebook and wish to be a
Runecaster, that is fine with me as long as your ability scores match the
requirements.
As long as I am talking of Patryns and Sartan, though you cannot count on
meeting anybody else, you will almost certainly meet Zifnab.
If I think of a way, I might decide to allow PC Patryns and Sartan....

All right.
Just to clear things up...
Starting Levels: 5-9
Races Allowed: Every PC Race from Every Campaign Setting
Classes Allowed: All
Weapons Allowed: Everything
Mages and Armor: A special type of armor exists for wizards which allows
for casting.
Spells & Magick: Magick simply works.
Any thing else you want to know?
