Well, I still have my 8-bit NES, though I don't use it much.
Nevertheless, two of my all-time favorites are the classic
Legend of Zelda, and Metroid.

I know, strictly speaking, these aren't RPGs. But they're close
enough, and they ARE great!

The Dragon Warrior games were reasonably decent. So was the little-known
Dungeon Magic.

I had that once, but I hated it. I think that it could have been made better.
That wasn't well known probably because all the reviews that I have seen were
strictly negative.(including mine) most thought the game sucked

Well, to each his own, I guess. I kind of liked figuring out the best
magic "incantations", but I can see how that might not appeal to
everyone. Personally, I still think it's underrated.

Yeah, it WAS pretty good 3-d and stuff, but the magic was just mostly guessing
which wasn't great, but it was ahead of it's time.

In Japan, Dragon Warrior five is on the super-famicom, and Enix is working on
transllation to english and english likes. It looks somwhat like final fantasy
though.

I have to agree with kain, Final Fantasy is the best RPG for the NES, but it
does get boring after a while. The graphics and music hardly ever change, and
it takes so long to build levels. Still, it's probably the best one out there
for the NES.

Yeah, I didn't notice more than five different musics for it, but it was an '89
game, give it some credit!

The 8-bit systems are *dead*, people! Upgrade or delete!
jsr
response 17 of 49: Mark Unseen   Feb 21 14:20 UTC 1995

Delete?!?!??? Whatever for? I paid good money for my NES, back
when it was THE game system. If the games still work and they're
fun, why should I just chuck 'em? Sure, I play the new stuff, too.
But that's no reason to forget the old games. For all their
limitations, the best old games are better than many of the newer ones.

He definatly has a point, (if your system still works!)

Well, mine works fine, phreaakus, we don't need such pessimism in this
conference. We like our systems and if you find a problem with that I suggest
you ignore this item, but try to understand, SOME of us don't have the $$$ to
get a $100 game system.
