On the Edge is a gresat card game (based on the rpg Over the Edge)
It really helps the flavor of the card game to have read the rpg,
but it's not necessary. One of the really neat thngs about the
game is the goal is not to kill your opponent, but rather to
gather more influence than the other players so your conspiracy
takes over.

yeah, I guess, but it seems like another magic spinnoff using different words,
like crank, pop and flip...

There are going to be similarities between card games, especially magic,
no matter what happens. People (ie companies) always want to cash in
on whaterver success someone else has going.

That's true. How many hunting grounds are there in Vampire: the Eternal
struggle?

re: #6: I think there's one Hunting Ground per clan, though I won't swear
by it. I've only played Jyhad twice, but it strikes me as a fairly fun
game. Because it's so politically-oriented (i.e. the players strike bargains
with each other, etc.) the more people you have playing, the more fun it is.
The problem is, there aren't enough people playing here in mid-michigan
(Alma, Mt. Pleasant area) to make it worth my while to invest in the cards.
I think the game is much more balanced than Magic--that is, there aren't
one or two cards that'll guarantee you'll win. And I think the artwork is
in many ways superior to Magic--I would be much more into collecting Jyhad
simply for the art than I would Magic.

I think the Star Trek game is pretty cool myself. Again, the goal isn't to
kill your opponent, but rather to score the most points. I guess I like it
most because I'm a pretty big Trek fan and I really like the pictures
on the cards. The problem I have with the Trek game is that, of the 363
cards, 121 are commin, 121 are uncommon, and 121 are rare (and I can't
believe I just spelled common wrong)...so it's a difficult prospect to get all
the cards in the game.

Anyone played Illuminati: New World Order? I'm most curious to see how that
and On the Edge are played...nobody around here sells those games (in fact
the only card games we can get up here are Jyhad, Magic, and Trek). And
the new Star Wars game is due soon...again, something I'd be interested
in as much for the pictures as for the game itself.

Try riders hobby shops, in ann arbor or elswhere, they sell all those AND Jyhad
at half normal price, I have a really cool deck, and I don't think caitiff has
a hunting ground, I want more traditions if you've got em...

response 13 of 83: Mark Unseen   Apr 7 14:51 UTC 1995

They're real durn close though!!!! But there are a couple different rules like
ranks and files, victory and pull, but the basic concept is the same.

response 14 of 83: Mark Unseen   Apr 10 18:34 UTC 1995

I still beg to differ. Magic is a battle between 2 (or more) wizards to
wipe eachother out ( or drive eachother away at least). OtE is a
(sometimes) shadowy game of subterfuge and intrigue between several
conspiracy groups to see who will rule the world, from the shadows.
That's on the conceptual level. From a mechanical level your're right,
there are a lot of similarities between the two.

That's just story, they represent the same thing, but with different words, If
not, what about jyhad, where almost EVERYTHING is the same....

RE:#15 What about Jyhad where everything is the same compared to
what ? I don't follow your statement.

response 17 of 83: Mark Unseen   Apr 14 15:23 UTC 1995

Is Jyhad really any good? I've considered starting, but when I look
at the card lists, it just looks like politics.
matthew
response 18 of 83: Mark Unseen   Apr 15 17:06 UTC 1995

RE#:17 It will depend on your personal interests. I think it's a
fun game, provided you have enough time. A single game ( with more
than 3 players ) can take several hours. Politics are involved
because they're involved heavily in the Vampire world. THere is
direct combat conflict as well, and enough cards to slant your
decks to whichever end you want.

response 19 of 83: Mark Unseen   Apr 15 17:14 UTC 1995

What do you mean by whichever end you want? Is there more than
one way to win? I've heard that the point is to "suck the blood
of your opponents". Is this true?
matthew
response 20 of 83: Mark Unseen   Apr 15 23:40 UTC 1995

I mean you can slant your deck to a combat oriented or a political/intrigue
oriented deck. You don't literally suck the blood of your opponents blood.
abstract system of blood counters which represent the amount of influence
and power you are able to use to overcome your opponents.

WotC's latest game, Rage, is out. It's based on White Wolf's Werewolf RPG,
much as Jyhad is based on Vampire: the Masquerade. The Rage art is fairly
cool, I think, though it looks a little more complicated than Jyhad (on the
surface, anyway).

BTW, anyone here collect Jyhad? I have a friend who is 13 cards short of
a set (most of the 13 are rares) and he wants to finish it before it gets
changed to vampire: the eternal struggle.
