I need some input on the work of Jill Scott and Alicia Keys, who have
sounded somewhat interesting when I've heard them on the late night
talk shows.
I tried to work up an interest in Erikah Badu, after her first album
was praised to the skies by lots of critics, but I couldn't stand
the sound of the synthetic percussion.

This is off the subject, but for an interesting article on the state of music
equipment, you may want to check out
http://www.msnbc.com/news/691577.asp?cp1=1
I mention it here because the article includes a bit about a drum manufacturer
that specialized in synthetic drum heads now trying to imitate natural heads.
Plus there's a lot about digital effects now being programmed to imitate old
sounds formerly conisdered "defective" (hisses, pops and even 60 cycle hum).
Maybe Erikah just needs to reprogram her synth drums ;)
