A happy discovery tonight on CBC-2 (89.9 FM from Windsor, Ontario;
other frequencies across Canada or it's on the web at http://www.cbc.ca):
David Wisdom is back on late night weekends!
David Wisdom used to have the "Nightlines" show on weekend overnights,
playing a pop-based mix of rock, world music, jazz, folk, pretty much
anything. His old show was the last vestige of the wonderful free
spirit that was CBC's "Brave New Waves" in the 1980s.
CBC canned "Nightlines" maybe five years ago -- it's probably documented
somewhere in the old music conference -- and David Wisdom got assigned
to an evening rock show called "Radiosonic," which wasn't particularly
interesting to my tastes.
Wisdom just said on the new show that he and the most recent CBC
late night host, Grant Lawrence, have switched timeslots. Grant Lawrence
now hosts "Radiosonic" in the evenings, and Wisdom's new overnight show,
called "Radio On," sounds -- in the first 30 minutes we've been listening
-- just like the old show. Wow. 11 pm - 4 am Saturdays, and I don't know
if the second show is Friday or Sunday.
So much for getting to bed early on weekends!

I thought I'd mention another NPR program, this one geared towards
folk, and the holiday season. It's the follow-up to Judy Collins'
excellent folk tour of the USA that was heard last year, and in 2000.
This one is called "Peace on Earth - A Holiday Folk Tour" ...
Shamelessly pasted:
The performers include: Ms. Collins herself ( Let It Snow and Song
for Sarajevo ) along with, Jeff Talmadge of Austin ("First Day of
Winter"); from Woodstock, Leslie Ritter and Scott Petito ("The Bells of
Christmas ); from New York City, Caddy Finlayson ("Silent Night"); from
Berkley, CA, the Jewish Home Elders & Judith-Kate Friedman ("Chanukkah
Tonight"); from Massachusetts, Mark Erelli ("Ain't No Time of Year To
Be Alone"), Pete Nelson ("You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch") and Jim Henry
("The Tree"); New Hampshire's James Durst ("Holiday Invitation"); from
Oregon, John Twist ("Scrooge in Black and White"), Salt Lake City s
Kate MacLeod ( A Holiday Song ); Chuy Martinez from Albuquerque
( Ezequiel Codos ) and from New Orleans, Mary Gauthier ("Christmas in
Paradise ).
The show is produced by Paul Ingles.
Check your local listings, or tune in via RealAudio at 11am CST/12pm
Eastern, this Sunday, 22 December 2002.
