"Weird Al" Yankovic item
|
Sep 3 14:08 UTC 2001 |
An item for all things "Weird Al" Yankovic. Hear in the
summer of 2001, Al and the band are in a quiet time; not touring
as they have been the past two years.
oldmusic has the previous incarnation of this item as # 57.

Rumor is that the next Al album will be out this spring.
My thought is that Al is waiting for that one big Pop
Cultural event (like the first Star Wars film in fifteen(??) years to
come out); so that at least one song and video will be able
to play on it.

That makes sense....he wants to make fun of things that people will remember
for a long time. :)

I think somebody's in a time warp. As I recall, the first Star Wars
film in some 15 years did come out a year or two ago, and Weird Al
already parodied it - quite brilliantly.

Right. And he's looking for another cultural event of similar magnitude
before he puts out another album. Makes sense to me.

Actually, he didn't parody it, so much as summarize it. The entire song "The
Saga Begins" is the entire plot summary of a 60+ minute movie condensed into
approximately 3 or 4 minutes. Still, it's clever!

Hey, welcome to the item.
Can you think of any current songs that might be an
Al target? Hopefully in the near future.

I'm waiting for "Weird Al" to parody any song recorded by Britney
Spears, *NSYNC, and the Backstreet Boys. After all, he has done a
spoof of a New Kids On The Block song.

New Weird Al album is apparently recorded. Original tunes
as long ago as last May, parodies recently. The report is of
album photo work being done, which usually does not occur until
all tracks are recorded and selected. No word on the parodies.

My own guess is that the new CD will be out on May 27th.
Just my guess.
Oh, yeah, Al got lasik surgery back in 1998, now only
has to wear glasses as a prop. Before he was very out of focus
without them.
Also he got married in February of 2001, had a baby
daughter, Nina, on February 11, 2003. He's a new dad.

Wonder how he likes it. It was a wondrous experience for me.
