Well, I don't know a whole lot about it at the moment, am just getting into
it, and was wondering if anyone else was familiar with it. I know there are
a lot of Indians here, but most of the seem to be chatters rather than
posters. Was hoping someone could give some tips on what to listen for as it
still sounds a bit foreign to my ears at the moment. It takes a while to get
used to.

Carnatic music is all about devotion to God... I don't think there is
even a single song in Carnatic music that is not related to God. If you
enjoy, philosophy, it's even better.
Most of the people listen to music (of any kind) for pleasure. And since
Carnatic music has this remarkable ability to give pleasure to the
senses and while still being religious (or philosophical, in many of the
popular compositions). But nowadays, the people are moving farther and
farther away from the 'devotional' aspect of Carnatic music. Carnatic
music is dry without this devotional aspect.
I don't know much about Carnatic music. But I know enough to say that it
can give pleasure to those who seek pleasure and more importantly, it
can give real bliss to those seeking God.
