96.3fm has left the planet Mark Unseen   Jun 29 22:33 UTC 2001

Another new radio station on the Detroit Radio dial.
WDVD started calling itself that today. 96.3(fm) is the new DVD.
Musically, it sounds just like the old 96.3, which stopped reffering
to itself as "Planet 96.3" some time ago. Now the call sign makes
sense, I thought I was hearing something wrong when they quickly
said it in the 'El Breako Grande' before the top of the hour.
Anybody hear any other news on this.
The 963detroit.com site has no text, it must be all embedded,
planet963.com points you right back and 963dvd.com is coming soon.
For the hits of the 80s, 90s and now, I wonder why the identity
change. Why today?

I kinda like the Planet stuff...the Mr. Planet commercials were a hoot. :)

Thank god. The planet theme sucked and the station suffered immensely under
it. Perhaps it will become listenable.

Planet was good until they switched over to 80s exclusivly (LOVED IT!) and
then switched back and the 80's all but dissapeared, including getting rid
of the 5 o'clock flash backs on the drive home, and then went downhill from
there. The morning show started to get bad too.... They keep switching the
format, and mucking it up

They started doing one of my pet peeves...trying to define what
they do by what they don't do. ("No rap, no kids stuff").

Sounds like the lunchtime 80's request show is toast.

They dropped the Planet thing when they were purchased by another company.

It seems like the music mix is a bit different. It just might
be the few new songs added this week, but it seems like more new songs
added this week. Myabe they are playing current stuff more often.

Re #9: Owned by ABC? No wonder they're sounding like the alternative lite rock
station more and more..
