Grexers on Stage: Spring 2003 Mark Unseen   Apr 15 19:12 UTC 2003

Many Grexers have artistic inclinations. Announce performances here,
in advance if you'd like others to show up.

Or announce performances after the event if you're shy.

I'll be competing again in the annual World Championship Old-Time Piano
Playing Contest. Weekend of May 23-25 at the Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria,
Illinois. In old-time costume, of course. I've got my six selections pretty
much picked out and am getting them into shape for the competition.

The weekend will offer lots of old-timey music, afterglow parties, seminars.
Y'all come! See http://www.oldtimepiano.com for details.

I sang harmony for Matt Watroba last weekend.

This Saturday at 5 pm I'll sing in the Green Wood Easter Eve service:

"Secure Yourself" (Indigo Girls)
"Christ was Born In Bethlehem" (Trad., the Jean Ritchie version)

For those attending Penguicon May 2-4, I'll be one of the DJ's on Radio-
Free Fandom. I don't know the exact time, but it'll be during the
evening hours. I'll be spinning a selection of celtic instrumentals.

And if your into OTR (old-time radio), my bud John will be running his
show, The Glowing Dial, which was heard on C-band. He'll be playing
various sci-fi radio shows from back in the 40's/50's.

Feel free to stop by and say "Hi!" See the program book for the radio
freq.

Are you no longer a trio?

response 16 of 21: Mark Unseen   May 15 19:34 UTC 2003

For some reason we have to be at least a quartet to get gigs like this,
so yeah, we're now a "group" and have a percussionist.

I announced this before, but the event is imminent, so I'll repeat
myself. I'm a contestant in World Championship Old-Time Piano Playing
Contest. It's being held this weekend, May 23-25, at the historic
Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria, Illinois. See http://www.oldtimepiano.com
for details. I'll be performing two numbers at an as-yet-to-be-determined
time on Saturday, and, if I'm fortunate enough to make the semifinals
(top 10 contestants), two on Sunday and, if I make it to the finals
(top 5 contestants), two more on Sunday as well. Last year I made the
semifinals; we shall see how it goes this time around.

If you have any liking for this type of music and can make it to
Peoria, it should be a fun weekend. A number of wonderful performers
are competing, and in addition there are seminars and after-hours jam
sessions. I'll pay the admission of any Grexer who shows up and makes
their presence known to me at the event.
