Okay their have been alot of great songs and cd's that have came out this year
but some have stood out more than others. If you have a favorite song and or
cd that came out this year please post it here. Thanks!

Being cash poor, I have not bought any CDs in years. I'm wondering
about Kylie Minogue's recording.. "Fever". I've just loved the stand-
out cuts.. as you know, "Can't Get You Outta My Head" and "Love At
First Sight" have been monster hits. Interesting that this is retro-
chic now.. she sounds like a disco dolly.
*chuckle* guess the shockwave of the disco backlash has pretty much
ended.
Right now, I'm listening to remixes on www.kylie.com, the official
website.
I really, really liked Dirty Vegas's "Without You".. unfortunately, I
sense they are yet another one-hit wonder. Still, I will be keeping my
copy.
"Rocksteady" is also on my must-buy list-- someday-- Julie and I are
always rocking to "Hella Good" when it comes on the radio. No Doubt
still delivers.

The Rising - Bruce Springsteen
Meet Me at Mary's Place" sounds like a good time Bruce rocker.
I like the rest of it also
Far Side of the World - Jimmy Buffett
"What If The Hokey Pokey Is All It Really is About" - he saw
the bumper sticker. The whole CD is another kind of Jimmy
experience.
Jugstaposition - The Juggernaut Jug Band
I like these guys and seen them in Dearborn the other weekend.

So far the early leaders are:
Mary Gauthier, "Filth and Fire"
La Vole'e d'Castors, "VDC"
and there should be a couple more in there but I can't think of them right
now.

(I had John Reuben's _Hindsight_ in my CD player for quite some time this
year. purist hip-hop without all the pretention, plus it's catchy. as
much as I liked _The Eminem Show_, I have to give my nod to John Reu.)

my fav's this year (so far) are all female artists:
Pink's - Get the party started
(ok technically its a 2001 release, but its still getting
quite a bit of air play still)
Vanessa Carlton's - A thousand miles
(She's got a cute voice, its remindes me of Lisa Loeb)
Avril Lavigne's - Complicated
(her style reminds me of Alanis Morrisette a little, that
could be good or bad)
Sheryl Crow's - Soak Up The Sun

(I haven't picked up Vanessa Carlton's album yet because I don't want
to pay full price, but I agree that she pribly has one of the better
songs I've heard all year. "A Thousand Miles" is the only single I've
bought in 2002.)

I don't know whether it's my favorite of 2002, but lately I've been
really enjoying the Flaming Lips' "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots."
Despite a prominent place on many critics' top-ten lists, I didn't
expect much from this album, as I'd been underwhelmed by their similarly-
praised previous album, "The Soft Bulletin" (1999)
Perhaps I'm just feeling more charitable these days, but I personally
enjoy "Yoshimi" much more than its predecessor. Unlike "The Soft Bulletin"
the humor in the lyrics doesn't overwhelm the music to the point of
seeming gimmicky and the sentiment doesn't get quite as maudlin as on
the previous release. Too, the Lips' musical arrangements have developed
a more mature and cohesive sound, much of which I believe is the result
of better production (though the production team is the same between the
two releases..) I still think they'd be better off with just about anyone
other than band leader Wayne Coyne on lead vocal -- his high-pitched,
grating vocals are out of step with the mellow reverb-filled music --
but "Yoshimi" works well anyway.
