Friendship

This cf was started with a semblence of a subject. I'd like to
explore that here, in this item. Friendships- I would be lost without
my she'endrea, my soul sister, sun. How about the rest of you? Do you
have one best friend, or a whole group of friends- which do you think are
better? ie is it better to have one best friend, or a whole group of friends?
What do you look for in a friend? How do you define friendship? I think
that's enough for now....

My wife is my bestest friend in the whole wide world, followed by my
coven sibs (in some particular order that wouldn't be polite to go into
here) and my kitty cat.

Friends are among the most valued things in my life. I never had enough
when I was young. I like to build my own "family". Right now I have a
super one beginning here, which may be a problem as I will have to leave
in about two years when Michael, my husband, finishes grad school: theres
no work for him here. He is a better and better friend to me. Once.
(oops, that was supposed to be a comma. Start over. )
Once, my best friend and I did not see each other for 3 years because
of the distance. We always knew where the other was and if we were
(I hate telnet) each ok, even when we did not talk for a number of
months. We have a special magical relationship, and usually one of us
will call when the other needs help or just to talk. Actually, one of
the few times I have been jealous was when Michael started to develop a
friendship with C. that kind of had different "rules" than what she and
I have, and it seemed to get in the way. Now they have their own
friendship, separate from hers and mine, so it works ok.
Some of my best friends and teachers have not been human: animals, places,
"people without bodies" (ghosts? spirits? ideas?).
I can hav a "hero" without being blind to their faults. I like friendship
to be reciprocal: each to have strengths and both offer and accept help.

Anne, why are you implying that the two are mutally exclusive? I have a
best friend, flem, with whom I am so close that we often say the same
thing at the same time. I have a so, eeyore, whom I love dearly, but in a
different way than I love Greg. I also have many very close friends. In
no way does having a "best friend" exclude having a group of close friends.

Okay, let's try again!
dang- I wasn't staying my opinion above- just asking for other people's
opinions. If you don't think that they should be, or are, mutually
exclusive, then that's your opinion.
As for my opinion, I have two very best friends, sun, and gerund- both
of whom I value beyond measure. But, I also have started a larger
circle of friends, people with whom I'm very close. So I don't think
the two are mutually exclusive.

My best friend is Cai...we have known each other for eons!!
Well, at least 18+ years. We always know when the
other one is hurting or happy. There are no secrets
between us. Terrie is my lover and my life. We are very
close, but Cai is something different...non-sexual but
very intense.

I have had my best friend, Mary, for 15 years. We grew up together and
shared each others' childhood losses, parental divorce (mine), great times,
and tears. We did not have to be fake ar strong in front of each other.
She knows most things about me, and I about her. We have other friends, but
I think I am closer to her than almost anyone. Brent is my fiance, my
confidant, and my resident clown...I am his lover and caregiver at times,, and
we are very close. I also have treasured friendships with my residents. I
am proud to claim a dear friend who is 102 years old (and with an excellent
memory, too!) Older people make good friends..they have seen everything and
tend not to prejudge people. And the stories could fill libraries.

What?
I don't think I have a very close friend, not someone who I can pour my
heart out to, anyways.

Unfortunately with me- I've always had transient friendships. I become close
friends with those immediately involved with my life at a particular point in
time. But if I don't see someone on a regular basis, I lose touch...

There is only one person I trust unconditionally, and that is Anne/Kethry.
12 years, many fights, but I still love her, and she is my sister. It is hard
though, being that clost to someone. It tends to let your decisions be
biast, but you must learn that better for now is not better for later, and if
you are going o t last, then you must try, and understand...AND keep in touch

Yes, Celeste...I have many "of the moment" good friends. Cai is someone
special because she has been here. I just heard form her. You will
all be glad to know that she will be here for the weekend and will
be at the Ren Faire on Sunday (Arwen is dragging in info from another
conference in a shameless synth plug).
