Horseback Riding Outing Mark Unseen   Sep 9 03:24 UTC 1991

Every so often I go horseback riding at a nice State Park on Beck Rd
about 20 miles east of Ann Arbor. It costs $10 per person for an hour
trail ride, with walk/trot/canter thru the fields and woods. Is anyone
interested in a Grex horseback riding venture?

Do they allow children to ride, and if so, at what ages? Staci loves
horses and is always asking us if she can ride one. I realize that if
they allow her to ride that she will probably have to ride with a parent
(she is only 4), but Damon is a bit big to ride double (he is 7). If
they can ride we are very interested.

I imagine kids are allowed; however, they may or may not be allowed to
canter. If not, we may need two subgroups so those that would like to
go fast aren't kept at a walk because of those that can't or would
rather not.

Yes! I like horseback riding, and haven't done it for a
while. $10/hour is pretty reasonable.

When I went to Mayberry State Park to do some hiking a few weeks ago, I
thought that their price for horse rental was about $17/hour. Perhaps
I was mistaken.

Last year it was $10. I hope it didn't go up to $17!

(It was $17.50/hr. on Macinac Island a month ago...I thought that
was outrageous, but then all the prices on the island are high.)

I am definitely interested. Question: is the riding Western or English?

Does this place still exist ? If so does anyone have any current
contact information ?

As far as I know, it does. It's called Maybury Riding Stable. There's also
a good one at Hell Creek Ranch in Pinckney, and one at Waterloo near Grass
Lake.

I'm intrigued (sp?) ! It's been a while since I went riding, but
it would be a lot of fun !

It's been a while since we've been to the stable at Waterloo State Park, but
when I last took my kids there they not only had regular trail rides but also
evening campfire rides. After the ride they had a campfire and toasted
marshmallows and talked, sang, etc. Or at least so we were told. We never
attended. I think they were held either on Friday or Saturday evenings in
the summer. Wonder if the stable still runs 'em?
