A Selection of Music CDs
|
Feb 8 05:21 UTC 1999 |
Donated by Trisha Patton (beeswing):
Trisha has donated the list of CDs below. All are in good condition; she says
she has just outgrown them.
Here's how the bidding will work (thanks to janc and kaplan for the idea):
Instead of bidding on individual albums, people will bid on the right to
choose CDs from the pile. When you bid, say how many albums you're bidding on
and what the price is per album; so for instance, the bidding might go like
this:
A: I bid $2.00 per album for 3 albums
B: I bid $2.50 per album for 4 albums
C: I bid $3.00 per album for 3 albums
Note that the price per album must increase with each bid, though the number
of albums need not. If the bidding ended after the above series of bids, C
would send in $9 (= 3 * $3) and then choose 3 albums, B would send in $10
(= 4 * $2.50) and choose 4 albums from what's left after C's choice, and
finally A would send in $6 and choose 3 from what's left.
Note: Don't bid unless you're willing to send in money! The second, third,
etc. highest bidders will have to send in money too, even though the albums
they most wanted might be taken by a higher bidder. So there is a great
incentive to win, but by bidding you agree to send in money even if you don't
come in first. (Of course, you don't have to pay if there are so many bidders
above you that all the albums are spoken for.)
I don't want anyone welching just because they didn't come in first. Keep in
mind, as with all auction items, that this is a charity event. :)
Minimum bid is $2 per album, and the minimum number of albums you can bid on
is 3. (This is to help cut down on the number of packages Trisha has to send
out, and the number of payments your auctioneer has to track.) The two-CD set
counts as two albums.
Tracy Bonham: "The Burdens of Being Upright"
Sam Phillips (female): "The Indescribable Wow"
U2: "Zooropa"
Shakespeare's Sister: "Hormonally Yours"
Travis Tritt: "Greatest Hits"

Amy Grant: "Heart in Motion"

"Woodstock Diary" -- a collection of musicians from 1969 Woodstock, Joplin,
Hendrix, etc

Shania Twain: "Shania Twain"
The Doors: "Best of The Doors" (2 CD set)

Yay. Way the by, if you need to e-mail me, please use my main address:
TPATTON@CC.MEMPHIS.EDU
I use backtalk here, and do not check my grex account very often. I
check my main address twice a day usually.

That's right. Dan, I'm afraid you have to bid on at least 3 albums, so the
bid in #7 in not valid.

Is aruba planning to buy a total of 6 albums (3 at $2, and 3 at $3), or
is he planning to only buy three albums, at $3 each? (I'm assuming, of course,
that there won't be higher bids which make his 3 for $2 irrelavent; we can
hope I'm wrong here.)
The rules for this auction aren't clear about whether you bidding higher
cancels your lower bids or not. I get the feeling that letting people
choose when they bid higher whether or not to cancel their lower bids
would be reasonable, but I don't control what the rules are for this
auction...

I assumed that when you make a bid it cancels all your lower bids. Let's make
that the default, and if you want to keep your lower bid in place, say so.

(Ok: The easiest way to set up mail forwarding on Grex is to type "change"
at a shell prompt or "!change" at a menu, and follow the prompts from there.)
