Mr. Sandman bring me a dream? Mark Unseen   Mar 20 00:10 UTC 1994

Does anyone know who does the original version of Mr Sandman? The
version I'm talking about was used in the soundtrack to "Blue Velvet." I think
it might be the Andrews Sisters but I'm not sure. The song is utterly spooky,
and I find a lot of 40s big band/western swing to spoky also. Feel free to
discuss other spooky big band music of the 1940s

I found that record at the Ypsi flea market on a 78. I think it's still
around here somewhere....

It was done by the Chordettes.

r # 1 If I can't find the single myself, is it possible that I could
send you a blank tape in the mail with a SASE, and you could record it for
me?

The only hitch in that is that I cannot find my copy of the 78, but
I can give you a lead... There is a place in Flint called Musical Memories
(238.5 Dort Hwy) phone 810-238-5575 (check on the area code)
They *Might* have a copy on 45 or LP. They do mail order as well, so
I don't think you'll have to go up there if you don't want to.

I also saw it on one of those retro Time Life CD's so there is another
possible lead for you.

I think "Mr. Sandman" was 50s, not 40s. It was #1 on the charts for
several weeks in 1954 or 1955; I remember it being done to death on
Your Hit Parade.

A really good NEW swing album is I, Swinger by Combustible Edison. They
have captured the sound of lounge jazz along the lines of Martin Denney to
a tee. Anyone else out there with swing/jazz recomendations feel free to
chime in.

I like certain pieces by Sinatra and others. I even have a Glenn Miller
LP in my heap of vinyl I keep under the basement stairs.
