Letterman Goes Classical
|
Jan 12 06:11 UTC 1994 |
In the last four weeks, David Letterman has hosted the following musical
guests: Itzhak Perlman, Luciano Pavarotti, Marilyn Horne.
This is about as many classical musicians as would appear in a year on
Letterman's old NBC show.
Letterman appears to genuinely enjoy the opera singers (though he claims
to know nothing about it, he also said he has several Pavarotti CDs to
play at home).
This is a radical shift in style from the "mainstream alternative" musicians
who have been the majority of Letterman's musical guests over the last
several years.

I like this, It's about time Mozart, and Beethovan got re introduced to
the public.
I don't know a lot classical either, but I prefer listening to Mozart
rather than my Elton John Cd's.

I wouldn't count this as a "major shift", since Indigo Girls were
on last night's episode. The Late Show still does "alternative"
acts, but I certainly enjoy seeing more classical musicians on.

Classical Music is nice. Sometimes. Other times, it can be annoying.
