Has anyone heard either "Judgement Night" (Soundtrack for the Motion Picture)
Or "Midnight Marauders" the newest from A Tribe Called Quest ? If so <I doubt
it> What do you think?

somebody assumes things a little to early here. I don't think that most
Grexers are into Rap. Sure, I listen to some, but those artists are
completly clean in their lyrics. Somebody told me today "The problem with
Amreica isn't drugs, it's Rap music." Well, I'm not agreeing or disagreeing,
but I do believe that rappers talk a little too violently sometimes. What's
even worse is that some of them actually do the things the say in the songs.
And what is rap anyway? These days it seems like HATE to music, instead of
poetry to music like it used to be.

Well, I may not be most Grexxers, by I listen to rap, some... and I tend
to avoid the clean stuff, since it is often (though not always) the kind
of super-commercialized stuff they play on the radio... I tend to like
stuff more on the lines of Public Enemy, or NWA...
If you want to call the rap I listen to hate to music, you could probably
call most of the music I listen to hate to music.... Let's see--Black
Sabbath--some very bitter music, at times, hateful.... along with most of
the other hard rock type stuff I like... and then, if you want to extend
it, I listen to Hindemith, which is hate, since it is a rebellion against
the establishment, etc...
For more argument on this, go to the raging debate in Agora...

I'm not calling ALL rap hate to music, just basically what happens in
Various groups is either hateful, or has quite foul language. The kind of
stuff that doesn't belong in music.

As I say, go to the debate in Agora... I don't think I can take two
arguments on the value of rap!!!! :)

Um, give the mostly-absent fairwitnesses a pointer to the rap argument
raging in Agora and we'll link it over. I went looking for it and
didn't see it; I suppose the Zappa obit oughta be linked over too.
Arabella, help!!!!

You overestimate my talent. I don't see any leading subject lines.
I haven't read Agora extensively in a couple of years, so *please*
give us the item number or header.

Question is, have you heard The Judgement Night Soundtrack, or The New Tribe
Call Quest. Noone has assumed anything.
Just answer the question, or button up.

Aw, It's no fun if I can't elaborate on the topic of the value of rap. But
anyway, I probably have heard it. I don't keep track of all the music I
listen to. And by the way, GROW UP!

OK SKEEZ! :)
I finally DID go and get the Judgement Night soundtrack. I'm listening
to it as I type this (ref. item 56). For most of the songs, it sounds
like the rappers take over. The first song seems to be VERY separated
between Helmet and House Of Pain, rather than a great collaboration.
Despite all, I *DO* like this album. The use of real music makers rather
than spliced samples seems to have made a really nice sound that I dig,
dude. Way cool.

In reference to the Judgement Night soundtrack i thought was a great album.
Highlights for me were biohazard/onyx on the title track. Cypress Hill were
in great form as usual. I am surprised though that the album hasnt inspired
more rap/rock collaborations. The backing of bands playing instruments
instead of samples definitely gives i think a less artificial sound.
