The Ozzy Item Mark Unseen   Jul 21 02:56 UTC 1992

I've borrowed a copy of Ozzy's new album, "No More Tears". Excellent. All but
one track are multi-repeatable...that is, you can listen to em over and over
and over, and...

Comments please.

Also include any tidbits concerning Ozzy's Black Sabbath years. He's got such
a weird and creepy voice, that it makes for interesting listening. Oh yeah,
the words are usually pretty weird, too.

Ozzy was in Black Sabbath? Wow, that brings back memories; one of my friends
had a copy of "Paranoid" when I was a wee tad...

Ozzy was great in his Sabbath Years; such songs as "The Wizard" and "Faeries
Wear Boots" are classic metal. But I can't say I've listened to anything
he's done of late (meaning in the last 5 or more years)- there are a lot
of fresh bands coming out that seem a lot more vibrant and original. I can't
really say I find Ozzy relevant to the current musical scene, although I
have heard from others that the new album is worth a listen.

Ozzy is always coming up with a new bunch of boys to play in his band.
It makes for some fairly fresh sounding stuff, but at other times his
guitar players whack off too much.

Old item that I just got around to reading...

Ozzy indeed has some great stuff from his years with Black Sabath.
I don't like "Fairies Wear Boots" and "The Wizard" as well as some of the
others, though... like "Paranoid", "Planet Caravan", "Hand of Doom"...

He has some good stuff on his own as well, although the best is his
early solo stuff, and the last couple (No Rest for the Wicked was ok,
and No More Tears is good!)... The middle stuff isn't as good, IMHO,
although I still kind of like it....

What can I say - I'm an Ozzy freak! (unless you haven't guessed!)

        Ozzy was in Black Sabbath??

Aw gee. Ozzy WAS Black Sabbath. As the '60's terminated
this strange, quirky, even laughable hard rock band
drew attention with their 'graveyard rock' shtick.
We never expected them to go on to be successful or
ever be taken seriously. Of course, the radio played
their most banal music, 'Paranoid' and 'Iron Man',
but their best music was powerful, melodic, and dramatic.
Try 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' or 'Spiral Architect.'
The term Heavy Metal didn't exist at this point; we
        just called it hard rock.

Imagine our surprise when, a decade later, the Iron Man
himself, lead singer from a comic book band, returned
as if from the dead and commandeered the nations airwaves.^[[D^[[D^[[D
Having chosen some wildly hot young musicians . . check
out the drums and guitar on 'Crazy Train' . . he won over
a new generation that may have never even heard of
Black Sabbath, but made the connection with the maniac
who bites the heads off living animals . . and I still
like 'You Can't Kill Rock and Roll,' I have a chart for
it, I play it on my piano.

I understand his wife Sharon has taken over more and
more of his financial management. Evidently it was she
who produced the Randy Rhodes tribute album. I heard
recently that they had some disagreement and he ended
up in jail for punching her. I can just imagine, "But
Sharon, all I need is $1000 for a new michrophone," and,
when he gets bitchy, she says "You don't have to bite
my head off.' They'll work it out.

Now another decade has rotted away. Still the Iron Man
lumbers forward, a comic book Frankenstein character
stumbling on, singing his new music on MTV, playing
with midgets and birds, proving he won't bite their
heads off. The melodic, dramatic intensity of his
music has only gotten more polished.

I agree that Iron Man isn't the among the best of Black Sabbath's music,
but Paranoid is one of my favorites (try !finger power :) )... The only
version of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath I've heard is a shitty live version
(on Speak of the Devil), so I can't really pass judgement on it...
I just picked up a copy of Master of Reality (2nd album? Not having been
alive then, I can't say :) ).... it's got some decent songs on it... I
really like Lord of this World and Into the Void, and the slow one on the
second side who's name I can't remember right now (though that one in a
different way)... actually, I kind of like most of the song, just those
ones especially :)...

Gack! Nobody's even mentioned stuff like "Symptom of the Universe",
or "Sleeping Village"(heavy on the creep vibes)...
What's wierd is when they (Black Sabbath) decided to do a cheezy
rock-love song like "Sabbra Cadabra" on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. It
almost sounds like Ozzy was going for the whole poster-boy thing...

I like Symptom of the Universe (although I've only heard a shitty live
version off "Speak of the Devil", but it's still a good song..) Haven't
heard Sleeping Village--is it anything like Black Sabbath (the song) (
also heavy on the creep vibes :) :) :) )...
I haven't heard Abbra Cadabra, but then, I haven't heard the whole
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath....

I just got the album Black Sabbath--pretty nice stuff (listening to it
now :) ).... Sleeping Village is in a mixed thing with a couple of other
songs--although its hard to pick out exactly what's what, I think I've
figured out that part, and its pretty mellow... I also really like
'Wicked World'--a most cool song...
