Is it Live, or...?

Reviews of live musical events can go here. Tell us about the loud
raucous concert you went to last night, or the three-day jazz festival,
or the opera, or the philharmonic...

Heh. Now that's what I call a short review steve! ;-)
I bought thier new album. The Chenilled Sister "Momma I wanna make
rythm". I like it. Highlites for me are Lonely Can of Tuna. A song
from the point of view of a can of tuna that is unhappy because it didn't
get recycled. One of the funniest songs-with-a-message . ALos Big hair is am
amusing. Their "english translation" of La Bamba is silly.
James Dapogny supplies some really terrific jazzy arrangements to back them
up on this album. I love the song Chocolate.

I went and saw the Holmes Brothers at their in-store appearance at
Schoolkids, since I couldn't afford to see them at the Ark. They were
quite good and I think I'd really have enjoyed the full-length show.
They performed 4 songs, three of which I assume were from the newly
released album they're touring to promote (the fourth was "Amazing Grace".)
(for those who don't read the concert blurbs in Current, the Holmes
Brothers are a blues/soul combo from Virginia (according to them, by
way of NYC, by way of Texas..))

Since I didn't notice any other active concert items I thought I'd
awaken this item..
October seems to be a very good month for concerts (or at least is
well-supplied with concerts that I want to go to this year..) Last
week at St. Andrews I saw Bob Mould, tomorrow night I'm going to go
see Adrian Belew ("extremely unplugged".. seems to be a trend..) and
on Devil's Night I'll be driving in to Detroit to see a big ska-fest
which promises to be an excellent show (Skatalites (yay!), Special Beat,
Selecter, and Toasters..)
Anyone been to any exceptional shows lately?

I went and saw "LOes Ballests Africanas" tonite. It was actually very good.
A nice blend of African music and dance, and it had a storyline, too. I'm also
going to see Primus on Monday night.

Cuz, It was free, & Unlike every other 15yr old in AnnArbor, I prefer to be an
induvidiual, & I don't just go for every alternative group who happens along.

Homey, it was either Kris-Kross or looking at needle-point in the Arts & Crafts
building.....I don't know about you, but Kris-Kross would be more entertaining.

Ok, so this happened a while ago, but I went to the Concrete Blonde
concert at the Michigan Theater on 11/10. It was a wonderful concert. The
problem was whoever did sound has no ear for the space. The Mich is a
bright room with a hard return. This has the effect of jacking the treble
to almost painful proportions if you're miked. I tyhink the idiots jacked
the treble even more. The effect was to submerge the vocals andbass lines
in a sea of high-frequency interference. I came out with a screaming
headache. And yet despite this criminal behavoir on the part of some
motherless techie, I loved the concert, and would go again if they'd ever
tour again.
