Mmm, that's an interesting/worrying review, since UNIVERSITY was the
first Throwing Muses album I'd heard in a while which I generally
liked. I've never followed them intensely, tthough, but I really
liked "Bright Yellow Gun" and "Shimmer" from the previous album.

Well the Muses currently are a three piece band with Kristen Hersh
singing and playing electric guitar, Bernard George on bass, and David
Narcizo on drums. They usd to have Tany Doneley who is Kristen's half
sister playing guitar as well but she left to play on the Breeders first
CD, and then to form Belly.
The Muses have a pretty unique sound though it falls within rock
I would say, you can here the Muses influence in the Breeders and Belly,
some influnces on the Muses sound might include The Pretenders, and
Siousxie and the Banshees.
Songs you are likely to have heard include the ones krj mentioned
in # 1. These are off the Muses last album for the major label Sire, and
IMO the CD is a quicky throw off to meet contractual obligations.
University is by far the Muses most poppy (well produced, smooth) and
accesible CD, but it lacks the musical and emotional reach of the new
CD Limbo, or earlier CDs Red Heaven, House Tornado, and the first self
titled CD. For more info check out http://www.throwingmusic.com.
