The Ark Moves At Last Mark Unseen   Aug 16 19:53 UTC 1996

The Ark has announced that Saturday's concert with Jimmie Dale Gilmore
will be the final show in the current location.

This item is for nostalgia about a favorite performance space,
and juicy gossip about the new place.

And if anyone wants to reminisce about the Original Ark, the
house on Hill Street, that would be cool too.

I used to do the all-nighters at the Original Ark. Folks would arrive
around sevenish and spread out of the floor with the only real furniture
being huge pillows. Then about eleven the concert would be over, there
would be time to meet the performers, then two-thirds of those attending
would leave. The rest stayed as the front door was locked. Shoes and
belts would come off. A few blankets would appear. And the music would
start again and go until daybreak. Very casual and very intimate with
lots of conversation about the songs and the composers and lives retold in
the music. This was 1968.

It was at the Ark that I fell in love with Ann Arbor.

Yep, although we attended a number of the same
events and frequented the same hangouts, we
waited awhile to meet.

The grand opening of the new Ark is this Thursday.
Greg Brown and the Chenille Sisters are on the bill, and some others
who I don't recall. $25.

I read Maura O'Connell will be there. She alone is worth the ticket
price. Andy Breckman is hilarious.

The first time I went to the Ark was like two years ago- I went with
my current boyfriend and saw Ani Difranco for the first time. She's
been one of my favorites since then. I loved the space, no one was
all that far from the stage- it was just great!

For those of us not in the know, where *is* the Ark *now* located? :-)
