The files listed here are also available on the World-Wide Web at
http://copper.ucs.indiana.edu/~jbmorris
This document lists the lyrics files available on the rec.music.dementia
FAQ server.
For the list of Frequently Asked Questions, see the previous post entitled
"FAQ: rec.music.dementia: FAQ" or check the Web site or auto-server (see
below).
For the non-lyrics files, see the previous post "FAQ: rec.music.dementia:
LIST"
or check the Web site or auto-server (see below).
This file will list all of the subjects you can mail with that will send
you an automatic reply of lyrics to a particular song or songs.
The auto-server address is jbmorris@copper.ucs.indiana.edu
Use that to get these files.
Just mail with one of the following subject lines.
To access files in this directory, the subject line must begin with "LYRICS:".
To see what non-lyrics files are available, mail with the subject of "LIST"
instead of "LYRICS: LIST".
No text is necessary in the body of the letter, and in fact I will not
see it if you put it there anyway.
It is possible to request more than one file at a time using an asterisk
(*) as a wildcard. For example, if you want all the "Weird Al" lyrics files,
your subject line would be LYRICS:AL* or if you wanted everything in the list,
your subject line would be LYRICS:*
Note that this concatenates all the specified files into one mail message,
so it can be quite big if you request a lot. In the future, I might add a
way to be able to request multiple files to be sent as separate mail messages.
It is NOT currently possible to request more than one file if you cannot
specify the multiple files using the standard wildcard (*). That is,
you canNOT have a subject line of "LYRICS: DEAD.SKUNK AL.THREE" and get an
automatic reply.
To send contributions or corrections to these lists, mail
jbmorris@copper.ucs.indiana.edu
Be sure to not use one of the FAQ keywords as a subject line.
THANKS!
By the way, the server is not case sensitive, so you can type these in caps,
lowercase, or any combination thereof.
Subjects marked with an asterisk (*) are new since the last posting.
Do NOT include the * in your subject line when requesting them, however.
I finally modified the filter so that it is no longer necessary to put a
space between the directory name and the filename, but is still quite
permissible. For example, both "lyrics:list" and "lyrics: list" as subjects
will be recognized by the server and send back the same response.
Here's the list so far...:
Mail with a
subject of: and you will get:
LYRICS: DIR Directory of files, to see when a file was last
updated, how big it is, what files are there, etc.

Perhaps if a lyrics library is to be hosted here on GREX,
it might warrant a conference of it's own; because of it's long
tern nature; it's high information to conversation content and
to only present long items/responses when folks are looking for
them.
