Green Day Item
|
Dec 23 03:03 UTC 1994 |
Okay, I'm just gonna throw this out for y'all and see what happens.
This idea, by the way was sparked by what I saw on MTV last
night.
Green Day! Live in Chicago, so what do you all think of these
guys?

I like their style. I cannot listen to them all the time, but when I get in
that kind of a mood, I absolutely love them. I didn't get to see them live, I
no longer have Mtv. I miss it. :(

Green Day can be fun, in the right frame of mind.

The right frame of mind would have to be stoned to the brink of
UNCONCIOUSNESS.

I saw the concert and was highly unimpressed. I really like their album,
But they seem to suck in concert. (Hmmm, lets see how many people I
can spit on, throw things at, and I wonder if I look cool just
standing here by the mike for two hours.)
Come on. They were boring as shit. Good studio band though.

Their 'Basket Case' video came on the TV. I was drinking a beer and
got a little wild hair. I went over to the piano and found the
tonic: E-flat. It went into some changes and I got lost
but then I was able to anticpate a couple of the 1-4-5
chord changes and got lucky and hit them. I was jamming
along with Green Day! I got a little excited and slid
or bumped my thigh against the front/bottom of the keyboard,
and a huge sliver of wood caught on my pants, poked right
through, and came out about two inches later, and broke off the
piano. It scraped my skin but didn't really penetrate.
So part of my piano was jabbed through my pants like
a 17-year too late safety pin. For some reason this
seemed signifigant.

Ah, jor you capture the thrill of the jam too finely! :)
As I've said many times since first hearing Green Day, they are the ONLY new
band that have captured any of the good old Punk sound and feel. I say some
of the concert, and honestly enjoyed it. Not because they were very good,
but because it was a throwback to the true punk days. Hell it used to be an
honour to have the audience/performers spit on each other...it meant they
liked it. (hello, remember Sid vicious?) I don't necessarily condone this,
but its just the way it was. I remember seeing Skinny Puppy in Ann Arbor WAY
Back When, spitting, razorblades flying across chests, knocking over drinks...
punk was wild but driven. (unlike grunge) Its great to see a band that can
actually capture some of that again.

I'm happy that grunge is *trying* to bring back the punk era, But people
who say grundge is punk should pick up some Joy Division or Sex Pistols.

BUt you have to listen to it just for the music, not look for something deep in
it , it is FUN music, although there are a couple of lines that could actually
have some meaning, although maybe he just got lucky

I'm kinda new to this, this should have been the begining of #10.....
The concert was good, but the CD is much better. It is FUN music to listen to
if your in that kind of mood. Great band, and the drummer kicks ass, it took
me awhile to be able to play all the songs on this albums. -Ben- ..

I like the album, and am going to a concert this summer, possibly two, if I
like the first one, the only thing I don't like about Green Day is the secret
song, at the end.

green day, while still a fun pop-punk band, have become cocky assholes thanks
to their mainstream success. i don't know if i can blame them, their fan base
went from mainly punks and skaters to lots of drunken frat boys and football
players. the first time i saw them play live they were great, tilt played and
was also amazing, since then their performance fun-factor has declined, mainly
due to the crowds. by the fourth time i saw them, stupid homophobes were
scared by pansy cdivision. despite all this, i will probably see them live
again and buy their next record when it comes out.

Very rarely do you see a drop-off in quality like the one from Dookie to
Insomnia. C'mon, it's pathetic!

Obviously, you don't know the meaning of the word "quality." The word you are
looking for is "popularity" or maybe "airplay," since as far as I can tell,
Insomnia sounds about the same as Dookie. They both suck.
