New Pink Floyd?!? Mark Unseen   Apr 4 21:13 UTC 1994

There's a new Pink Floyd album due out today. How? I don't understand. I
thought the main singer was in a mental institution.

Now that's way old Pink Floyd from the mid-late 60s when they had
Syd Barrette (sp?) as their lead singer. He took WAAAAYYY too much acid
and now lives at home with his mom (so goes the urban legend). Pink Floyd's
lead singer from 1969 to early 1980s was Roger Waters (he ought to be in
a mental institution). In the late 80s Floyd now minus Waters released
"A Momentary Lapse of Reason," (the album I call a mmomentary lapse of
talent). David Gilmour just cannot write lyrics <sigh>. The new album
might be good if Roger Waters rejoins the band, but will probably
suck if David Gilmour fronts the band (he can play guitar but see above
comment).

The new album is really good...has alot of the old feel to it...etheral,
and yet has a few surprising "radio-types". It's definately worth a
listen to anyone who appreciates Pink Floyd. The new tour by the way,
is supposed to blow ALL other concerts (not just PF) out of the water.
The laser show (of course) is unbelieveable and the set is 9 stories tall!

Raven, Raven, Raven you poor deluded soul... Roger waters DID have his time
in the sun as a lyric writer, but for god's sake, it was time that he got
over the fact that his father died in the war. I mean how much material
can you flog from one rough childhood? The Wall was the classic incarnation
of all that he had been through, so why turn "The Final Cut" into your own
personal I'm anti-war because it killed my daddy crusade. I think that the
Final Cut is a decent album, but it is Roger's first solo album, and he has
gone STRAIGHT down hill from there. "Radio K.A.O.S was the most insipid and
banal album ever put on vinyl. The concept was weak, the tour was too long,
his voice sounded like someone getting a belt sander taken to their gonads.
As for Momentary lapse, I would place "On the Turning Away up with the top
20 Floyd songs ever. The rest of the album DOES have weak spots (i.e.
"Dogs of War") But as they said themselves, "Tongue tied and twisted, just
an Earth bound misfit, I" That's a lyric.

juggler, I'm sorry but I'm going to have to disagree with you about the Wall.
It really has very little to do with his father dying in the war... or even
with the war itself.

It actually says a lot about the world as it is, and peoples' responses to
trauma... anyone who would like me to explain further pleasemail me and I would
be happy to do so." ."

Personally, I think the Wall was great...sort of fits my attitude of "Life
isn't that great, but oh well". Large parts of it...(Another Brick...Part 2,
Mother, Stop, The Trial, Comfortably Numb) could have been written by me, if
I had any musical talent.
The Wall, Live in Berlin concert was cool too.
On Momentary Lapse, I thought Dogs of War was pretty good. Learning to Fly
was the best, though, if you ask me.
And why would you think Waters belongs in a mental institution? He strikes me
as being a realist, not insane. If that's the way he sees the world, so be it.
I know plenty of people who believe that way, and we're considered the most
intelligent and mature people of our age (high school) by adults. That may
not make us right....but it means that believing that way doesn't impair our
ability to function. So why should it impair Waters's?

I can't contemplate the idea of buying a CD which has a blinky light
installed in its packaging.

Well, that's the "pulse". And it IS rather fun sometimes...it drives my
girlfriend insane...

the packaging of PULSE was very good. I loved both the CD's especially the
song "A GREAT DAY FOR FREEDOM",. The guitaring in that was the best of the
whole lot.
THE WALL was the album that had paved their way to success. Their actual
success started from the album THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON.
