The Sunburst Ragtime Trio (me on piano, Erik Hildinger on banjo,
Elizabeth Hildinger on cello) will show up for the Ark open stage
night this Wednesday to play a couple of tunes.

Whether we get to play or not depends on the luck of the draw -
if there are more performers than available slots, names are
drawn from a hat for the privilege of performing.

The Ark is located at 316 S. Main St. in Ann Arbor. The show
begins at 8pm. There's a nominal admission charge.

Where did you come up wi th "Sunburst Ragtime Trio" from? You could
have just been "Johnny and the Hildingers", which sounds like a name
straight from the fifties. :)

Heh. "Johnny and the Hildingers" has a nice ring to it, but
we play early 20th century music, not 1950s music.

Ragtime ensembles often name themselves after a particular piece.
In our case, it's James Scott's "Sunburst Rag".

We lucked out again and got to play -- number 9 out of a total of 16
acts.

After the fact: Got some playing time in at the Eau Claire Ragtime
Festival in Wisconsin last weekend. It was my first trip to that annual
event. Nice festival - well-run and evidently quite popular.

re #11 I guess you consider all that as "training" for the world old-
time piano playing championships in May. Maybe this is the year you
make a run for the title!

Arabella sent this out to some friends in e-mail and forgot to
post it here. She's singing several Mozart arias tonight:

 It's Mozart's 250th birthday, and I'm celebrating by singing a bunch
of Mozart arias this Friday at First Baptist Church (512 E. Huron
St., right next to First Methodist). The concert begins at 7:30 PM
and admission is free (although donations will be accepted). Other
singers on the program are Bob MacGregor, Mitch Gillette, Tom Petiet,
Lucia Campbell, and Chris Grapentine. The accompanist is Jim
Wagner. I'll be singing "Come scoglio" from Cosi fan tutte, "Porgi
amor" and "Dove sono" from The Marriage of Figaro, and "Mi tradi"
from Don Giovanni. Whew! (Bit of a workout...)

Friday is Mozart's *actual* 250th birthday, so come soak up a bit of
Mozartean operatic excess! You'll definitely get your money's
 worth.
