School MUD? Mark Unseen   Feb 10 15:40 UTC 2002

I thought about creating a new MUD - but I don't have the time to create
everything on my own, so I decided to use some MUDlib...
The MUD's environment shall be the school I am visiting.
Two questions: what MUD library should I use?
Second question: do you think it would be wise to use the real names of our
school's persons?

The mudlib depends on your coding ability and your operating system.
MudOS is still pretty popular and gets used a lot, but it requires older
libs that current linux uses. You'll have to downgrade your linux libs
or hack the driver code somehow. If you like diku-based, circle or ROM
are pretty easy to work with.

Personally I think using real names of people from the area would be
REALLY bad. Seems like a potential lawsuit waiting to happen :).

thanks for your respone - and I like Grex.
I am using Linux; but I am not sure what OS the server that will host my MUD
will have - but it has to be some POSIX-compliant.
my coding ability...quite good in C(++)

I coded on a MUD for a while, and the language we worked with was LPC, which
is very similar to C++ but tailor-made for coding (LP)MUDs. I didn't do any
of the technical side of the work, though, so that may be useless information
for you...

I am currently working a MUD that uses LPC. The mudlib is heavily
modified, however, and requires some extensive work to bring about
the implementations I have outlined. I'm always looking for ways
to speed the process, be it through coders, builders, or just trade
agreements for source code. The MUD's genre is "Cyberpunk" but does
*NOT* follow the structure of tabletop games like ShadowRun or
Cyberpunk 2020. It does use several ideas that could closely resemble
a variety of tabletop games, but that is generally something you have
to live with (how often can you code a pistol in a new way, really?).
If anyone is interested in checking out the MUD for curiousity or even
a desire to code (haha, I wish!) feel free to contact me at this addy:

Oh, by the way... I'm using the Genesis CD Gamedriver version 4.07
released by the Chalmer's group. It works well on the Linux
Mandrake server. :)

Hello
MUDs ... hmmm ... been there, done that. I've worked on a MUD from the
beginning to the end as a coder, builder and implementor. It's quite fun and
easy. I would recommend the ResortMUD, but it has to be modified alot. What
more can i say? Mail me at ashden@ashden.org
